I dont know if this topic's been done already or if it should be in the Jonh Lennon forum (Though that seems like a forum for his solo work only), but in any case, what do you think is the best John Lennon Beatles tune?

My personal favourite songs by Lennon during The Beatles were Knowhere Man and Yes It Is, but his best has to be Strawberry Fields Forever for me.

no one could ever have wrote that song or sang it like he did, his voice and the actual song complemented each other so well.

Although my favorites are I am the walrus & Tomorrow never knows, Strawberry fields forever is a great song, the lyrics go so well with the music.

Once again, I am wracked with indecision. How can I possibly vote for "best"? Considering just what is on the list, all these songs end in a tie:

In My Life
 Help!
 All you need is love
 Strawberry Fields Forever
A Day in the Life
Across the Universe
 Come Together

Then I have to think of songs not on the list!

This is good. It gives me something to ponder when I'm supposed to be working. Cheers!

He had tooooo many, i think he wrote most of his greatest one's in the Beatles.
In My Life, Help, Lucy in the Sky, Nowhere Man, Across the Universe, Julia, I'm A Loser etc.
But my personal fav is Strawberry Fields Forever (as its my fav song ever & it's just so
beautiful & amazing). the lyrics are so personal & it was a song he wrote in the time of his
life i think where he was trying to find himself!

It all depends on how you define "best" because there could be: best lyrics, best vocals, best playing... I went for Twist and Shout (I think it might be his best performance). Across the universe will be my best lyrics... On the other hand, they are all too good, damn it!

Can't do it. Every time I think of 1 I think of 6 others.
For the middle period alone I can't decide between Rain/Walrus/Day In he Life.

It's like comparing Apples and Oranges. Each song comes from a different stage of their creativity but "Strawberry Fields" is easily the most beatiful song ever, especially the Demo and early takes! Agreed?

Beatlemania period: "You Can't Do That", "Not a Second Time"

Pre-psychedelic (Rubber Soul "folkish") period : "Nowhere Man" (definitely), "Norwegian Wood", "In My Life"

Psychedelic period : "Strawberry Fields Forever" (his greatest song next to post-beatle "Imagine"), "Tomorrow Never Knows"

Late period : "Come Together" "Across The Universe"

(sorry couldn't narrow them to one a period) :(
