Leave me alone?
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:55:18 PM »

At the end of the fourth video of the Anthology there's a song sung by Ringo. I've never heard this before. Is it by the Beatles and is it named Leave me alone? And if it is, on what album is it?

I believe you're thinking of If You've Got Troubles, recorded around Help! but not officially released until 1995 (Anthology).

It's pretty bad, actually.

So it's on the Anthology album, then? Hmmm i haven't listened to it in a long time so this might explain why i don't know about the song. I'll go check it out...

I like that song too! I don't get why it wasn't included in Help, I rather have 'If you've got trouble' rather than 'Act Naturally' which was a cover

Exactley! The first time I heard "If You've Got Troubles" I wondered why it wasnt included somewhere. I liked it much better than the "Act Naturally".

I like the tune and the arrangement of this track, although it could have done with being tidied up a bit! The lyrics though are a bit naff (as in bad!); "go and count a ring or two"!? Also, this was not the first time Lennon/McCartney had rhymed 'things' and 'rings' - just listen to Can't Buy Me Love & I Feel fine! Perhaps if this had been a real serious contender for Help!, they would have fixed a few things.

I think it's a very original track though - there's nothing else that sounds anything like it... and it CERTAINLY IS better than Act Naturally!

act naturally is great.

What Goes On sucks and If You Got Troubles was rightly aborted.

I like "If You Got Troubles"....it wasn't worthy of being on an album, but could have made a great b-side. I REALLY love "That Means A Lot" though.....definitely should have been finished and given mad props.

I like If You Got Trouble, too. What I like of Act Natually is this harmony with Pauls voice (my god, today my english sounds so bad :/ )

I read in the Anthology-book that George didn't liked If You Got Trouble at all.

Your English is great, so please don't worry! :)

I think this track was side-lined because the lyrics were so bad - nothing wrong with the music though!

Thank you very much! :)

This reason sounds logical *singing* "You say you're worried. You can't be as worried as me (...) You'd better take yourself home. Go and count a ring or two."  ;D
What does he mean? (thinker)

To me, it sounds like it's a song about a rich girl who's complaining about money... I might be wrong though! :)

It's true the words are strange.
What does 'You're quite content to be bad' mean?
Could it possibly have been written with the Help film in mind?
Maybe Ringo could have sung it to the girl trying to get his ring.

I'm not sure it was ever intended as a film song, I think it was always meant to be Ringo's song for the album, ie Side Two. In the end, of course, Act Naturally was used instead. The good thing about Beatles films is that the songs do not tell the story, not in the sense of other musicals of the day. For instance, Elvis might be driving along with a pretty girl beside him and suddenly he bursts into song, usually with a really bad film back-drop behind him!

Regarding the line "You're quite content to be bad", well, the next line kinda fits in the 'rich-girl' scenario: "with all the advantage you had over me".
