Abbey Road engineer who headed Beatles 2009 remaster project retires
Allan Rouse, special projects engineer at Abbey Road Studios, has retired after 40 years of work that included work on many Beatles projects including the 2009 remasters. Abbey Road Studios announced his retirement at the end of March. Rouse joined EMI in 1971, often working with Norman (Hurricane) Smith, the Beatles' first recording engineer. He was among the team, along with Sir George and Giles Martin, Kevin Howlett and Mike Heatley, who assembled the radio performances that became two-CD set "The Beatles Live at the BBC," released in 1994. He also worked on the documentary "The Making of Sgt. Pepper," which was one of the earliest projects to features Beatles outtakes.
