This has been my favourite Beatles song since I discovered the band in 1994 (some exiting times ahead then!). I first heard it on Imagine: John Lennon (soundtrack) which I borrowed from a friend. Ringo's drums standout in that the song. Up there with some of his best drumming. George Martins sped up piano/harpsichord solo adds a beautiful touch to an already perfect song. I wonder who came up with the guitar intro.
I heard a different version of this song on Chris Carter's Breakfast with the Beatles the other morning. George Martin played the solo on a Hammond organ. I didn't realize it even existed and I wish I could hear it again. If anyone comes across it on YouTube please let me know!
That would be Take 3. George Martin's Hammond organ solo overdub is at 0:56
I also love the French horn solo in "For No One."
That would be Take 3. George Martin's Hammond organ solo overdub is at 0:56The complete take is on All Sides Of Rubber Soul
So do I.Helene and Mile love it too...
They're very talented, just your friend from the high school orchestra. What was her name again?
Thanks, Barry! It's neat to even hear that much of it again. Maybe one day I'll find one of the sources you mention. I tried getting the Purple Chick Deluxe Rubber Soul the other night but got out bid. I went in at :10 seconds before it ended but it's impossible to beat cheaters with EZ Sniper!
Today it's interesting to hear how Sir George Martin recorded his piano solo......and sped it up during mixing.
