I wasn't born when it happened (I came 5 years later), but I remember I was 7 or 8 when I was looking at my parents' Please Please Me CD and my dad pointed out John and told me he was shot on the street outside his home by a mad man. So I always had the picture of young John Lennon, as he looked on that cover, walking outside his house and being shot by a man hiding in a balcony. Weird how you can picture something like that in your head...

Listening to a Lennon tribute at them moment. Because, well, tomorrow. They started with Howard Cosell and the Roosevelt Hospital announcements. Still hard to listen to even 28 years later.  :'(

Simon and Garfunkel A Heart in New York & The Late Great Johnny Ace (Guess they made up) Notice the angry fan's reaction. Remember, this was only 1981 and it was in Central Park. Hmmmm... Lucky he had security.

I am really frustrated right now because I have a band concert tomorrow and I'm supposed to arrive 'cheerful and uninhibited'. I think the orchestra at the concert is going to play 'Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da'. I think it's supposed to be some sort of tribute, but I didn't have the heart to tell the orchestra director that Paul wrote the song instead of John.

I was 15, getting up in the morning, eating breakfast at the table when I heard it on the radio.  Cried the rest of the day at school.  Terrible!!!!  And I can't believe that it's gonna be already 28 years since John's been gone........ :'( :'(

Good grief.  And I think John hated that song too.   :-/

Miss Lennon....Try to get the orchestra to play it in ska tempo the way the Beatles first recorded it.  It sounds better that way.  And who knows, maybe John liked it that way too.

I'm guessing he felt Paul was being disrespectful by doing this song. The song isn't even about him until the end, but I think he sort of handled it in a weird way. It was too soon maybe?

I probably answered this last year, but I was watching Monday Night Football and Howard Cosell made the announcement. He sounded genuinely sad, I'll always remember and appreciate that. I remember hearing that the cops threw him in the back of their patrol car and sped off to the hospital. They asked him who he was, and he said "Lennon".

What a sad day in history....But a day I hope people take the time out to remember what a wonderful and talented person John was.  He is missed dearly by many and lives on in our hearts.

Here's the actual announcement. It sounds kind of weird. Too casual or something. But again, it was such a huge shock that a lot of people reacted that way.

John with Cosell a six years earlier. Weird. John's so cute explaining the similarities between rugby and football. Cosell looks like he gets a kick out of him.

How funny is it hearing Cosell's voice again? He used to be such an iconic figure, but now I think most people have never even heard of him. Do the younger ones know who he is??
