Last movies you saw & what you thought of them
« on: July 21, 2008, 09:50:41 AM »

I've spend pretty much my whole weekend watching DVDs, so here goes:

Chapter 27 Basically this is little more than Jared Leto dressed up as Mark Chapman holding a 85 minute monologue. It doesn't really help this movie that Chapman is really an incredibly uninteresting person.

Sam's Lake A very typical movie about a group of friends who go on a trip to a deserted little cabin in the woods and get slaughtered by a bunch of psychos. The actors are so bad that you really don't mind that they get killed though. Nice unexpected plot twist in the middle, but after that the movie really doesn't go anywhere and then stops without a decent ending.

Chronos No actors, no script, no talking, just a 45 minute montage of speeded up footage of landscapes, cities and monuments with strange music. Not too exciting, but there are some really spectaculair images.

Night at the Museum I don't think that movies really need to be realistic, but a somewhat believable plot would've been nice... Some parts were funny and Robin Williams is always great, but I thought that was more a children's movie.

Premonition Sandra Bullock loses her husband in a car accident. The next morning she finds him in the kitchen having breakfast. It turns out the days of the week have been scambled. Instead of seriously trying to prevent the accident from happening she decides it's better to just go running around, acting confused and yelling at people. Interesting concept, dissapointing execution.

I haven`t seen any of the above mentioned unfortunately. Recently, i ve seen Hancock with Will Smith. The movie is stupid and the plot is banal, though some scenes are very funny. I didn`t like the first part of the film, but the second part improved the whole impression.
The films I really enjoyed were: An Incident In Las Vegas (not sure what it is called in English) with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Dias, a comedy, very funny; and the second film is In Brugge (again don`t know the English name) with Colin Farrel. This is a very good film, clever, psychological, a lot of close-up scenes.
On DVD I ve seen lately, though it is not a new film, Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch. A series of conversations about life, some of them are really good.

 ;D

I want to see a movie in which a bunch of Hollywood writers and producers go off into the woods and get killed by some random psycho / nerd who rents a bum movie from Blockbuster and wants his five dollars back after watching it on TV in his parents' basement.

Good. Apart from "Chronos" I wouldn't really recommend any of them.

National Lampoon Presents Cattle Call - Hilarious!

Basketball Diaries - haunting, tragic, thought provoking. Leo DiCaprio is amazing in this one.

The Dark Knight - A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

"Hancock". I thought it was pretty funny. It had its moments.
But for me, nothing's going to beat Bateman!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Jude!!!

On DVD - Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. The film is beautiful, classical. And what a man! Impossible not to fall in love with. Though i doubt all me are crazy about Keira.

Yes, that one is not bad, but I like the older version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle better.
