80's vs. 90's
« on: July 21, 2004, 08:22:10 AM »

Which do you like more?

I like the 80's more. The 90's had Soundgarden and Kyuss, but the 80's had Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Pixies, the Traveling Wilburys, Metallica, and REM. :)

You mean musically right?

It's a tough one, but I'll go with the 90s: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Smashin Pumpkins,Him, Silverchair, ... then some 80s band did really well in the 90s: Guns N Roses with the Use Your Illusion albums, Metallica with the black album, AC/DC's Razors Edge. Aerosmith put out some good power ballads too.
And then we have the punk revival with Green Day, The Offspring, Rancid, Pennywise and others...

It was a good decade for Beatles fans too: the Anthology documentary came out along with the albums and that encouraged the young people to listen them again (that's how I got into them, by the anthology!

Heh. Well, I grew up in the nineties, and I guess I enjoyed the music that was playing in the background of my childhood years. Now I mostly listen to older stuff, but the 80s is the decade I visit less than any other. The 80s always struck me as a waste of time, kinda.

But then I only experienced (not even that) two-three years of the 80s, so what do I know?

The 90's was where we sat around all day and talked about the 80's.......but that sure beats living through it.

Well I grew up in the nineties. I was exposed mostly to (gag) The Spice Girls and (double gag) S Club 7, but as I got older i got to appreciate some great 90's bands like Nirvana, No Doubt, and Green Day.

As an old fart (and proud of it :) ) I think the world started to go to hell by 1985.
So I'm picking the early 1980s -- some great music there, especially 1983.

Musically, it looks like the 80's are a vast wasteland, but if you look a littler harder you'll find some great stuff. The 90's on the other hand had grunge. That's about it. Grunge, rap and dance music. Much like now. So I don't know which is better. I'll say neither. How 'bout the 70's? ;D

Did you look like the dude in the Cure? ;D Actually, I didn't think there was Goth in the 80's. I thought that was the 90's! I was a metal head myself! Complete opposite of Goth!

Oh yes - there definitely were Goths in the Eighties! ;D

BUT, we enjoyed our music... REALLY enjoyed it. In those days it was more a fashion statement than a life-style!! In my day it was just black clothes and pointy Beatle-boots... and loads of synth music!
