The Better Musical Wife - Yoko Or Linda?
« on: November 23, 2005, 04:16:57 PM »

Bet this one hasn't crossed your minds! Linda or Yoko?

If you feel automatically against Yoko, don't forget she did a very good job of vocals on War Is Over, and presumably she sang the part she wrote. Also, her vocals on Attica State are not bad. Other times, I know, her vocals are just awful.

As for me, as yet undecided.

Have to go for Yoko on this one - she was off the wall, but intentionaly so. When she puts her mind to it she can sing well enough. Poor old Linda was along for the ride.(though I haven't heard her solo stuff, so might be wrong)

The matter here is that Yoko was (wanted to be) an artist and so she sang (or tried to) but Linda wasn't (didn't want to) but Paul insisted (but she couldn't).
I don't like neither, but Yoko less. Her line in The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill is annoying, and whatever you want. She was off the wall but I'm not sure if it was intentionaly (an excuse perhaps -in those years, that excuse could work).
At least, Linda tried to harmonize and be 'pop'. Some vocals in Ram LP are quite fine.
Linda for me (she can't make it worse... any more...sadly).

I actually like a few of her songs - Remember Love, Sisters O Sisters, Born In A Prison, Attica State, Kiss Kiss Kiss, Walking On Thin Ice and others that I'm too drunk to remember right now! ;D

True, you have to be drunk to like Yoko's singing.

I'm still undecided. I agree with her part on Bungalow Bill. I can't stand that song anyway, but with Yoko on it I'm guaranteed to listen to it hardly ever. I might opt for Yoko, but only because of War Is Over. Undeniably, IMO, she makes it even more evocative and wistful.

It's a bit like saying the better choice between two poor options to me, but I think you are probably right.

I like Linda's stuff a lot so I'm going to have to go with her. I', no saying she's talented or anything, just better than Yoko.

I like the way Yoko seemed to inspire John to write. That's the only basis of them being musical wives in my eyes.

Generally, I dis-like anything with either of their voices on. Neither were mysically gifted.

I'd say Yoko....Especially if she inspired the line 'I'd love to turn you on.' Her effect on Lennon is mis-understood a lot. Although, I'm still not much of a fan of hers.

Both women can claim to have made their partners write some fantastic songs. Lennon's are the more interesting in this respect.

Well, Patti inspired Layla and some say Something too (George denied this). I this was true she was the best musical wife of history.

That's interesting Raxo. Paul suggested that line? I take it all back what I said. lol

I hear what you say about Patti. 2 incredible songs but not the same abundance of inspired songs as our prolific masters.

It is subjective and I suppose good knowledge of their solo careers would help me in this matter. I've been a bit of a 'best of' fan with their solo music.

Does anyone know what Lennon's first song written after he met Yoko was? Would be interesting to know.
