Beatles Map of Liverpool
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:29:43 AM »

Going to Liverpool any time soon? Want to see some nifty Beatles sites?

Here's a map I did on bing.com, showing several Beatle-related locations throughout the city:

http://binged.it/vvnHFw

I think it's mostly correct.

Nice info, BF! There are two locations I would add to this map.

First one is 9 Madryn Street, which is Ringo's birthplace. Developers had plans to bulldoze the home, along with 200 other terraced houses of the "Welsh Streets of Dingle" in April 2011, but the government stepped in and blocked the demolition at the last minute.

Second one is Stuart Sutcliffe's grave. The location of the cemetery is not publicized by the local tourist boards, and seems to be a fairly well-kept secret. When I moved from Texas to Liverpool in 1998, it took me 18 months of asking around before I found a St Helen's council employee who told me where it was. It is part of St Michael's C of E Church and Vicarage, Blue Bell Lane, Huyton, Liverpool, Merseyside L36 7SA. The graveyard is located near the northwest corner of Blue Bell Lane and Stanley Road. Here are the cemetery's Lat/Lon Coordinates: 53.4143 -2.8420. I can't remember for sure where Stuart's grave is, but I think it's in the southwest quadrant of the cemetery.

Hope this helps,
BB

Thanks BackBeatle, I updated it. I also added the cemetery where Julia is buried.

I'm also trying to find the location of the hospital that John was born in. I know the hospital doesn't exist anymore. Does anyone know the address?

You're welcome, SF!

John's birth hospital was Liverpool Maternity Hospital, Oxford Street, Liverpool, L7 7BN. As far as I know, it never had a number in the street address. The entire hospital complex, including staff dorms etc, was more or less bound by Oxford Street on the north, Abercromby Square on the east, Cambridge Street on the south and west (although the west leg is now called Cambridge Court). The Lat/Lon coordinates are 53.4030 -2.9675.

I did get a picture of it on a tourist trip in 1989, 6 years before it was torn down. There was a historical plaque on the building, commemorating John's birth. Not sure what happened to it after demolition.

There's actually a nice app for the iPhone by ' The Beatles Story ' - which is a map with numerous voice over descriptions and photos.

The bug museum at Albert Dock is fun for kids. You can hold a giant snail!

Good idea. Although as it was my daughter's idea to go to Liverpool on a UK trip I could hardly begrudge them coming.

I quite liked the Beatle story museum. It's worth the visit. My favourite stop was Strawberry Fields though. We got there just at sunset. The woods made it quite dark and eerie at the gates.

Nice map. Just a suggestion to add.

The barber shop and tram station locations mentioned in Penny Lane. I did find out exactly where they were but can't remember now. They might not necessarily be on Penny Lane itself as Penny Lane was also a general area as well as the Lane itself.

Hopefully one of these days I'll go! Can't decide if it's better to go now while I'm young and don't have kids or anything yet. Or if I should wait til I'm old and retired and have a lot of time on my hands. Lol

I was in Liverpool in January. It was a first time visit, and of course felt like a pilgrimage. I did The Beatles Story tour, which was great, and bought some merchandise in the store. If anyone is going to Liverpool and loves the Fab Four, it's a *must*.
