well what sort of a guitar is it m8 ? acoustic or electric ? if electric then you will have to sand it down to the wood, thats if you want a nice finish on it .. if not, just sand of the lacker then repaint it .. well i would probably spray the guitar instead of painting it .. but no matter what you do .. you gonna have to sand the lacker off, or the paint or spray wont stick .. if you know what i mean.. its just like glossing a door .. u need a rough surface for the paint to stick..

yeah its electric, and yeah by saying painting i meant spraying it...its the same for me...i would never try and paint a guitar by hand...its like painting a car by hand, it has no sense... :)

Hold up! before your refinish the guitar what kind of guitar is it , who's it made by, and what model is it? You could be about to make a great error. Some guitars are worth a lot of money ie....old Gibsons,Martins, and ...

haha don't worry mate... i'd never try to repaint a precious guitar :)...it's a hybrid brand (aka cheap copy)...

thanks alot for your help guys!!!

another question...what kind of paint and finishing lacker do i use for it?

I would really want to paint my Fender in Psychedelic colours, but it would cost a fortune to get it down by a pro.

Ok then. As long as it is solid wood you can use a good grade paint stripper and this will remove any fininish there leaving the body ready for final sandining and primer or sealer coats, if there is any plastic binding on the body DO NOT GET ANY STIPPER ON IT OR IT WILL MELT, binding has to be sanded. Then you can use any spray paint you want laquer or poly its up to you, but dont mix the two. Stick with either laquer or polyurethane

Really guys I hope I helped. By the way Lenny you can use the same methods even if you choose to sand instead of strip the guitar. It just takes longer and since I'm totally friggin lazy I like the stripping method. I have had several refins come to the shop and the owners always b!tch at the price I quote, but they are always happy when the see the final product. The only real thing I hate working on are guitars with locking Floyd Rose Tremeloes, They SUCK! :D

yeah i know the trems your talking about .. you get them on the more Rock looking guitars... Im not really into the trems.. but if any.. the bigsy's are quite nice .. i wouldnt mind one on my guitar, just for looks more than anything.. but ive heard they go out a of tune alot especially on the 3/4 scale neck ..well come to think of it .. i had one once on a epiphone riviera .. but i didnt have the guitar long as it was a pain in the arse trying re-string it half way through a gig ...so a changed it for a Casino ..
