Entwistle!!
Anyone here seen 'Kids are alright' Special features?
John's bass lines are isolated so that you can just listen to him!!
It's sh*t-yourself amazing!!

I saw that. That was on 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Don't Get Fooled Again'.

When I saw that I thought Entwistle really cared the band rhythm wise. His brilliance let Moon and Townsend to do their thang.
And he looked very cool.

I picked John Paul Jones, I also thought he was a very talented bass players. He is my favorite next to Macca. I loved his bass playing in Dazed and confused.

David Brown in Santana played a fairly simple bass, but it was very good. Check out the Santana Soul Sacrifice on Woodstock, if you've got it. Simplicity can be a real virtue.

I went through the thread again and no mention of either Les Claypool or Jack Casady. With all the funk bassists you guys are including, I thought Les Claypool was a definite choice. Jack Casady, I guess it's more a personal choice, but his lines are pretty awesome. Tremedous flow in his playing.

You've gotta be kidding... That guy's never played anything difficult in his life... The kind of basslines he plays are the ones you let little kids play for their first ever bass guitar lessons...

I'm not a U2 fan in any sense - but does a bass line or any instrument line for that matter have to be complicated? I hate when people get blinded by complexity.
Yeah, sometimes it's great - I enjoy bass lines that are a real challenge, or even just to sit and listen in mouth-dropped awe. But no way should someone be discredited because their work is simple or seen to be easily learnt.
Since when is simplicity a negative?
Like I've said before - hitting the right notes instead of all the notes is a far greater skill.
Well, that's how I see it.
