Title: Anyone collect their vinyls?
Post by: barry_burton on February 21, 2005, 10:02:38 PM
I have a few of their albums on records, they're really cool. I really enjoy the sound.. Does anyone else have any records from the Beatles? I only have a few but I want to get them all. Yet with a price of around $60 for a mediocre condition of Sgt. Pepper I don't think it will happen any time soon.

I see. There's a record store downtown but they sell pretty expensive stuff. I have Let it Be, Abbey Road, and The White Album.

Let it Be and Abbey Road were ok, but the White Album cost me $40 I think. Of course it is a two vinyl set and some of the Beatles best work though.

I have Rubber Soul and With The Beatles that my mom's friend gave to me. I also have a copy of Walls and Bridges that I got at Value Village for $2.00 (I (heart) Value Village!) It's not in very good condition, but hey, for two bucks...

I'm 38 and started collecting when I was 7--way before alot of you were born (thanks alot for making me feel old...Actually, I'm a 16 year old in a 38 year old body). Anyways, I have all kinds of vinyl, I think around 180 albums and probably around 80 or 90 45s. I have all the US releases, mostly on Apple, imports from everywhere. I wouldn't give up my vinyl for nothing. I hate to shill for ebay, but you can get albums in pretty good shape that aren't as expensive as the ones you guys have been looking at. Of course it all depends on what label, condition, sealed/unsealed, etc. that you are looking for. Check it out, otherwise you can find a ton of different sites besides Ebay that specialize in vinyl. Try a Google search and you'll come up with alot. Hope this helps.

It was a great time to collect-we're talking late '70s/early '80s. There used to be independent record stores that weren't part of huge chains like they are now, and some would carry all kinds of imports--so you could buy a copy of 'Hard Day's Night' from Uruguay for $12.99 and weird stuff like that. Albums at Woolworths were $6.47. 45s were under $1.00, and I didn't make much on allowance, but when the Beatle bug hit, I spent it on albums, and over the years, it became a hobby. Unfortunately when you're a kid, you don't treat the albums quite right and I played the hell out of them. I was the only 3rd grader playing stuff backwards. But my advice for the kids is that they can still find decent used vinyl without spending a fortune. I just replaced my copy of Magical Mystery Tour with the booklet for about $9.00 and its in good shape. I think if they do a Google search and just type in 'Beatles vinyl', they'd come up with a ton of sites.

It breaks my heart to think of the albums I had in the 70's and totally destroyed. I had an original Sticky Fingers with the zip that I turned into a poster. The original round Odgeons Nut Gone Flake, which I gave way. And the Let it Be book-I chopped it up to make a cover for a bootleg!

Be careful with those punk albums... It's totally insane what people pay for original punk LP's from the 70s and 80s nowadays.

I've been collecting records for about 30 years and like PC i have more than I care to count. My favorite things are bootlegs and 45s with the original picture sleeves. I have most all of my collection on cd, but could'nt turn loose of my vinyl. Theres just something about the covers, picture sleeves, and colored vinyl that a cd can't replace. For the younger group just starting to collect or would like to collect, try ebay. I have had great luck finding rare items at bargin prices. A word of caution though, read sellers feedback, item description, shipping costs and scrutinize all photos thoroughly. One final tip NEVER buy without a photo of an item unless you know or have done business with the seller first. 8)

CD's can never replace them.

Here's what I did with 60 picture sleeves a few weeks ago. Compilation is from US, Mexico, Japan, France, England, Australia, and a bootleg thrown in for good measure. Looks crooked because of the angle, but it looks pretty cool. 4 cheapo frames from Walmart and you've got wallpaper:

My parents saved their vinyls which is great but a lot of the sleeves are in crappy condition. Rubber Soul met my dog when he was teething for example and a real, not conterfeit, Introducing the Beatles has some weird juice stain on it...

I usually buy a couple of LPs a week! When you buy one of these Lps your getting a little piece of music "History" The cover art and the months a band poured over recording songs who wouldn't buy it! There in lies the problem I'm up to 1200 and running out of space!

I got it at a Fest in the early '80s. You probably know that they just printed the picture sleeve but never pressed the 45/never released it. I'm hoping its not a boot because the originals are nice collector's item now. I think its a legit copy because its a pretty heavy paper stock and not a skimpy run off like alot of pic sleeve boots. As you can tell by the picture, its release was to coincide with the 'Love Songs' album, but for some reason it didn't happen. And sorry, I don't have an extra copy of 'Ballad of J&Y/ Old Brown Shoe, not hard to find though.

I really really miss vinly. There was someything very satisfying about trying  to get them out of the sleeve without touching the tracks, putting the needle down and all.
i can't explain it, but CD's a prime example of progress just for progress sake.
and no more side two's!
All the things that p*ssed me off about vinyl I really miss now.

I've never listened to The White Album on CD, but it must destroy a lot of the experience. No spooky double thud of drums to close side 1. No horror of Helter skelter/long long long slamming the door on side 3.
I think people who've only heard it on CD have missed a bit.

I got a lot of their albums on ebay. I used to own a few when I was a kid, but I don't know what happened to them. Along with my Doors albums. Anyway, the only problem is, I don't have a record player. I'd love to play them just to see what condition they're in. I own about 20 or so. More albums then I do cd's at this point! Beatles cd's that is. I think next I want to get Dark Side and The Wall on vinyl. Just to have 'em. I love my White album with the poster and pics. I just bought a mini CD that looks just like the album with mini pictures and a mini poster. The CD opens up exactly like the album. It's cute. They should do all CDs like that. I hate those jewel cases. They always break.

I'm gradually taking over my dad's record collection.  Actually, over the summer we listened to quite a few, unfortunately my Hey Jude 45's scratched to pieces (thanks to my mom being reckless with it when she was a kid) so I'm going to frame it, I just need a matting for it :)

I'm going to my in-laws' house this weekend to steal my younger brother-in-law's record player.  (He moved out ages ago so he won't care.)  I really want to be able to play the Beatles records in my house that have been unused for so long.  The main problem is that his record player is needle-less, so I'll probably have to spend some time finding places that sell them.

Thanks so much! :)

My hubby and I made off with the record player yesterday.  I think it's about 30ish years old, simple in design, but it's good quality and has an understated beauty.  Considering its age, it appears to be in excellent shape.  We haven't played a damn thing on it yet, and who knows if it will really work, but I'm already in love.

As for the needle...  My husband has been searching all over the Internet for a compatible one.  So far I think eBay will be our best bet.

^  We got the needle and cartridge and they work perfectly with our old record player.  The first LP we played on it was "Sgt. Pepper" (stereo, though).  These past few days have been so music-filled and joyous.  Lately I have been loving the "Meet the Beatles!" record, which I had never listened to before.  Much of it is so upbeat and it's just perfect for dancing! :)

My Beatles collection is pretty meager: Meet the Beatles, Sgt. Pepper, and the Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane single.

I already have them on all CD, and the vinyls all seem so expensive at the shops. I'm more interested in getting the solo stuff on vinyl. Especially the stuff I don't already have--they can be really affordable too. Picked up George's Best of Dark Horse today and am going back for Wings Over America some time.

^ Honestly, now I would invest in a new turntable.  I've seen many around the $150-200 (Canadian) mark, and they come with software and a USB plug to upload the album onto your computer.  I'm not sure where to get them, there's a local store here that sells them.

I've been collecting Beatles (and other 60s bands) vinyl for years. I was born in '67 and got into The Beatles when I was about 9. I used to buy vinyl albums whenever I had saved enough pocket money so I would get stuff like Hollywood Bowl and Love Songs, plus the 1970s re-releases of the UK albums (since I'm in the UK). I got a few second-hand original 60s albums as well.
But I really got into collecting when I bought an entire collection from someone in N.Carolina after seeing an ad on a Beatles site when I first got on the internet in about 1999. I paid quite a few hundred pounds including shipping and it took weeks to arrive by boat, but I'll never forget the excitement of ripping open these big boxes which had come all the way from the States and getting out all these original 60s albums and singles, books, magazines and memorabilia. The collection included rare records like the very first 1961 German issue of My Bonnie on Polydor, with the German intro, and a DJ copy of the first US VeeJay single with the mis-spelled "Beattles".
I now have all the original UK and US albums, all the UK 45s and EPs, most of the US 45s, almost all the original 1960s Italian 45s, plus a host of other albums and singles from all over the world. And lots of solo stuff and hundreds of singles and albums by other artists as well.
I have multiple copies of many Beatles albums and singles, plus I try to get mono AND stereo versions if possible, though I'm still missing a few early UK stereos. I also try to get all the rare variations (like the "loud" mix of Rubber Soul, the various versions of With The Beatles with different label credits etc etc).
I don't buy so much now because eBay has got very expensive for Beatles stuff, and most of the stuff I'd like is not cheap (like the original Let It Be box set). I'd love a set of autographs as well, but I don't see me being able to afford that any time soon!!
Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm not trying to brag about how great my collection is or anything - I'm sure there are many fans with better collections - I'm just trying to get across my continuing love for Beatles vinyl!  :)
Cheers
Pete

I think most of them realized soon after and bought the records again.

I believe that sales went up during this period.

The Beatles actually profited from this outrage, and their popularity is still going, so...

Now that I think about it, that's probably all it is. A swap meet but with records. Duh! Sometimes my brain shuts down and I  miss the most obvious things, I swear. My friend didn't explain it very well though cuz she was talking about swapping my records and stuff. God, I haven't been to a swap meet in ages.Used to go to them all the time back on L.I.

I dare say I've got between 300 and 500 Beatles records.  Initially I just bought the UK albums, singles and eps.  The last record I needed to complete the collection was Beatles For Sale (No 2), which I paid a lot for.  Then I started on the flexi-discs, paying £75 for a first class copy of the 1963 disc.

A few years ago, I bought most of the US singles and albums in original pressings, which put me back a good £1000.  Lately, I've moved into buying Australian singles and eps and a few albums.

I can't help it!  When I was first buying my Beatles records, in the 80s, you could get a decent copy of, say, Rubber Soul for £5.

eBay is great for buying up some of the cheaper records, but can get a bit mad on the more expensive items.  Buy the best quality you can afford and enjoy what you buy!

I totally agree about eBay - you do still pick up the occasional bargain on there if you're after low or mid-range items, but I have totally given up trying to bid on the top-end items because the prices just go sky-high.

About 10 years ago I set about trying to get a full set of original Italian 45s - I got over half way with the collection but gave up because records that used to go for £5 started to sell for £15 or £20 and I just couldn't afford it.

I think the internet has enabled a lot more people to become knowledgeable in what vinyl to buy and what to look for when buying, so there are more and more people chasing the good stuff on eBay now.

But eBay is still a good place to begin building up a collection because you can get still get VG condition records at reasonable prices.

Another good way of getting unusual records is trading with people in other countries - I did this a few years ago with someone in Canada and swapped three original UK LPs (which I had spare copies of) for the first three Canadian original LPs. All we paid was the postage. I've done this a few times with Beatles collectors in different countries and it has always worked well.

I buy Viny.l When I can I want to get the Remasters on Viynl I know it`s out there I seen the catalog number listed in the EMI data base for the LP. I can get a vinyl copy of Abbey Road for 17.00 USD at Best Buy. The price of vinyl went down some. I think vinyl is better than CD

Vinyl's got a much warmer sound than CD for sure.  I'm happy I preserved my collection over the years.  I don't mind the occasional static pop.  They sound real nice!

Gotta have the vinyl.  There's something nice about the ritual of selecting an LP, wiping the dust off, cueing up the tone-arm etc.  And of course that was the way people listened to the Beatles when they were new.

I've got some nice Beatles vinyl that I collected years ago.  Some orignal pressing mono albums (With the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Rubber Soul, Revolver) and stereo (Sgt Pepper, The White Album).  I have the other British releases as reissues (such as Yellow Submarine on yellow vinyl).  Quite a few original 45s and EPs (some with picture covers) and a reissue of the Magical Mystery Tour double EP with book.  A few vinyl boots such as The Beatles Live in Munich 1966 and Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da. Various others such as Live at the Star Club, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, and Talk Downunder (And All Over) Vol2.  Dunno if it's all worth much, but I'm not selling.

Love my vinyl

See I'm a vinyl novice.  Neither of my parents had their own record players, only had records that they played on other people's players.  However, my mum decided to indulge my enjoyment of the 50's and 60's, and bought me a little record player for my last birthday.  So far, the only bands/artists I've got on vinyl are The Beatles, Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Bob Dylan, Gene Pitney, Beach Boys and Roy Orbison.

Nah, unfortunately. After my second divorce, I gave all of them to a friend of mine/record collector. He already had the biggest Beatles’ vinyl collection I know of; so mine simply got amalgamated with his. Regrets? Sure; but mostly because of my daughter (I had no kids at that moment in my life)…

AM, I can’t believe it!
I know. But there is nothing much I could have done about it. The last time I opened the box was to show my design students how record sleeves were done, and I felt more like an archeologist than a designer, I guess. So, they’ve gathered dust for 15+ years, I saw no use for these whatsoever and I had no space to keep ’em.

I read somewhere that sometimes, you have to throw away the pebbles you have in your hand to pick up the diamonds on the ground, isn’t it? :-[

I try.
I've had an original Abbey Road on vinyl since 7th grade.
I bought Revolver from an antique shop.
I have Sgt. Pepper vinyl framed. It's AWESOME how the cover/inside/record is framed. It's one of a kind piece of art, but I can't play it. It's still awesome, though.
I also have Paul solo/Wings albums.
Currently, i'm looking for Beatles 45s, (Apple label ones if I can) haven't found any yet, locally.
I have a feeling i'll luck out someday with a basement or attic of one of my grandma's church friends. I sure hope so, lol.

I wonder if all those kids who burned their Beatles records back in '66 in response to John's Jesus comment are kicking themselves these days?

I cringe every single time I watch footage of those kids destroying those records.
Stomping on them... burning them... scratching them... GAH!

Excellent - well done.
Is it stereo or mono? And what is the number on the front?
£18 is a good price for an original white album, even without the inserts.

And at £18 - it's only 60p per tune!!!!
Cheaper than yer average song on iTunes.

Must be a mis-print on the album sleeve. "Waiting For You" was a B-side by another Parlophone band, The Fourmost.
The correct b-side of Hard Days Night in Denmark was "Things We Said Today".

The original Hottest Hits album from Denmark is very rare as it was withdrawn soon after going on sale because the Beatles hadn't agreed to its release. There are, however, many modern reproductions of this album. The photo shows a repro because the original had a "flipback" sleeve, with the front cover folded over the back cover around the three closed edges. LIke this ....

It's a great album to own though, even if it isn't the original Danish release. I love the collection of singles and EP songs that they have used. And the cover photo of the band is fantastic!
Interesting to see that the reproduction has copied the same mis-print that was on the original release!

I'm sure I will!  I also went vinyl shopping again (oh dear, poor bank balance!) and got a couple of Queen originals for £5 each, and a Bing Crosby record for a whole £1!  I've fallen in love with Bing Crosby recently.  'Moonlight Becomes You' gives me shivers of the best kind.  I just love vinyl in general.  I mean this digital age where everything's in one little box is certainly convenient, but not exactly enjoyable...  not to me anyway.  I miss the days when I'd save up my money all week and then go down to the nearest music shop at the weekend and buy just one album, and every time, it would be magical - looking at the artwork, opening it up and scouring it until you knew every little detail, reading what the band had to say...  I miss that   :-[

Although I still own all of The Beatles UK LP/single/EP releases (and most American imports) on vinyl, and all the solo/post Beatles albums (plus a few singles) I no longer have the means to play them. In fact some have never been played, I bought them long after I had parted with my record deck (yes, I know....). They are currently filed away in protective dustsleeves at the back of a cupboard in chronological release order, much to my wife's bemusement. Once in a blue moon I fish out the Let It Be box just to leaf through the book, which is still in immaculate condition.

I was always useless with record players anyway. I never did understand how people played records "backwards" without breaking the machine. My turntable went in one direction at a choice of three speeds, 33 & 1/3, 45 or 78 rpm. I recall my mum having an old Connie Francis LP which was really heavy and the vinyl seemed way thicker than any of the other records.

I used to take off the belt on my belt-drive turntable and manually turn the record on the platter backward with my forefinger on the label portion of the record as close to 33 and 1/3 as I could.   ;D  Once you got it going, inertia would help keep the speed steady.

No harm done to the turntable, but who knows what was happening to the stylus and records.

Some of today's direct-drive turntables such as the Audio Technica AT-PL120 have built-in reverse capability and styli designed for forward and reverse play.

How about breaking them up in lots on eBay? That would make for easier shipping and listing.

eBay can be a pain when selling vinyl. I was given a bunch of LPs a few months back. There were a lot of albums by bands I wasn't interested in so I decided to sell them on eBay. I tried selling them in groups of albums by the same band - four LPs in one auction, or whatever - but the maximum postage I could charge for a vinyl LP auction was £4 and it ended up costing well over that to post the records. They only sold for a few quid anyway so I don't think I made any money at all on most of them by the time I paid the eBay fees and postage/packing costs.
It's only really worth selling the rarer pieces and the ones in really good condition - but then you have to put up loads of photos and a long description, which takes ages if you are listing albums individually.
It may be worth trying to sell them all in one go and saying that the buyer must collect - and before using eBay try local listings websites like Gumtree where you can post ads for free and ask for a fixed price for them.

thanks for the advice guys, I think a bulk sell is the way to go, I dont expect much for them so I dont want to spend hours photographing them etc etc, I might check out gumtree peter, would be cheaper than ebay anyway and the buyer collects, I like that..

Didn't mention this in my previous post but I have just remembered that, up in the attic, I have loads of vinyl singles from the 60s onwards including an unbroken run of all the UK number one singles from 1977 until the beginning of 1995. Most are in original picture sleeves. I have often thought about selling them as a job lot....

Coincidentally, TODAY!! I was driving behind a van with the number of a local dealer on the back who collects (nationwide within the UK) second hand vinyl records and sells them for you...

Any advice on the best place to get these records valued first? I would not have a clue what they are worth.

There's a brilliant book produced by Record Collector magazine which gives valuations for UK releases ...

I'm not suprised to hear that. eBay is a pain in general, at least over here in the US. I used to do a lot of selling on there but they've been ticking me off lately. I have stuff to get rid of though so I guess I'd better just get back at it.  ;D

Yeah, there are some vastly over-inflated prices on there.
I used to sell my own vinyl on a similar site and they charge a lot of commission, so you put your prices up accordingly.
Plus sellers tend to list stuff at the maximum price they think they can get for something. They are happy to wait for months until the right sucker buyer comes along and pays what they are asking, without researching and finding out they can get it much cheaper elsewhere.

What a seller thinks something is worth and what buyers are prepared to pay are (usually) two totally different things.

The best way of checking the value of something is to search for similar items in eBay's completed listings - if the average price comes out at $268 then great, but unfortunately I bet it will be way lower.
Or use price guides like the one I mentioned earlier, which have prices based on real-world sales, not figures plucked out of the air.

Excellent!
Records like that one are certainly worth trying to sell on eBay - use plenty of pictures and give a nice detailed description to reassure vinyl buyers that they aren't getting a scratched piece of junk.
And try to find internet forums dedicated to that kind of music and go on there and see if anyone is interested. I know some people aren't keen on sellers going on forums just to advertise stuff, but I have never had a problem with it as long as it is relevant and legit and you aren't filling a forum with "spam".
Good luck with it!

Hey, dsg, I know the "purists" can't stand the U.S. Capitol releases but that's how I came to know their music and I love 'em.

As for posting to the topic, I have all of the American releases on vinyl (VeeJay as well) including duplicates (some are original releases and some are reissues). I have many of their original 45s with pic sleeves. I also have the entire UK catalog on vinyl (LPs & EPs) - both as individuals and the highly sought after Blue Box sets as well as the MFSL box set and individuals. I also enjoyed collecting Imports from countries such as Canada, Mexico, Uruguay, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Spain, etc. My favorite Imports (and probably the most valuable) are my Red wax Japanese LPs. I collected Picture Discs and colored vinyl, too. I have all of their solo releases on vinyl up through around 1999-2000.

I like CDs because of their convenient size but I wouldn't trade my vinyl for the world (well, I probably would, but you know what I mean).

Yep, they were all original. Unfortunately my brother and his friends "updated" The Beatles' looks on the cover of Introducing the Beatles, giving them long hair and beards. And I did a little doodling of my own on a few so the only value they have is sentimental but in that respect they are worth a fortune.

They actually ended up at my brother's house. He took them home and in doing so introduced his children to the music. After he passed away I thought about getting them back but discovered just how much they mean to my niece so I haven't mentioned it. My sister is gone as well and her kids have no interest in them so they are where they should be. I just hope and pray that my sister-in-law never decideds to get rid of them. My niece listens to them when she visits her mom and I imagine that listening to them there is more meaningful to her.

No, I don't and I haven't actually listened to the albums in many years. It's just a sentimental thing for me, thinking about the connection to my sister and brother that they represent. I'm not even sure I could listen to them without getting teary-eyed. I've been listening to the CDs that came first, before the remasters. But that's about to change as I just ordered the mono box set. I'm pretty excited about that.  :)

Gary is making an important point here, Kelley.  The Capitol Box Sets are forgotten gems.  They recreate how we here in the United States first heard Beatles albums.  And they are the only way to hear certain unique mixes like the false starts in I'm Looking Through You.  There's also the bonus of having the stereo and mono releases of the Capitol albums.

There was a problem with the early Capitol Box Set Vol. 2 not having the true mono mixes on Beatles VI and Rubber Soul but that was remedied.

I consider myself fortunate, when I first got all of the albums, and yes it was on vinyl, it was a Blue Box. Although as a side note, I did have "Meet The Beatles", "Something New", "Beatles '65", "'"Yesterday" And Today'" and "Hey Jude". So even as an American I got used to all of the albums in their British configuration. I now listen to the American albums occasionally, just for the fun of it, but I can't stand the way some of the songs sound. The "Dexterization" of them is hard to listen to. The worst songs are 'I Feel Fine' and 'She's A Woman'.

Speaking as someone who grew up in the UK Gary I just cant imagine how it would have been hearing the albums with tracks missing and different album titles, but then again I guess they were 'right' for Americans as thats all they heard (and saw), Im glad that things changed with Pepper though, what happens in the USA always mattered to me   ;)

Yes, Kev.  And I listened to my Capitol vinyl Rubber Soul from 1965 until 1987 when I bought the UK Parlophone CD.  When I heard it on CD, I thought they chopped off the beginning of the song!

Kevin, if you listen to the Capitol Rubber Soul I'm Looking Through You with headphones, you can hear Paul humming softly during the false starts.  I think it was his way of counting into the song.

I always found it strange that Capitol didn't release the Beatles' earliest songs (from the UK "Please Please Me" album) until March 1965, when they put out the album "Early Beatles".
Must have been strange for fans hearing that album after having already heard all the late-63 and 1964 material - it will have seemed like a real backward step musically.
I know this material was on the 1964 VeeJay album "Introducing The Beatles", but that "Early Beatles" record sold a million copies from 1965 onwards (according to Wikipedia) so someone must have been buying it!

That's too bad about the Blue Box Gary. It was interesting to learn about Dexterization. When I started to really listen to The Beatles again, as an adult, I thought it was just the passing of time that made some of the songs seems different. I had (and still have) so much to learn, I guess!

Nice collection, Dcazz ! :)

One of my friends recently offered me a copy of Rubber Soul in mono pressing (Capitol T 2442, rainbow label). It’s perhaps for me a starting point for a future collection of US pressings. Presently, I’m looking for several UK stereo albums, on original Parlophone Label (PCS).

I am interested in the original British discography since my father introduced me to his collection when I was a child. In the sixties, he collected french singles and EP’s, but as some songs (Thank You Girl, for example) were not published in France, he also sought the English records (it was possible to find there at some stores, in Paris).

Today, we continue to collect both and I started to get interested in original German pressings from the Polydor period (1960-1902). A theme that interests me particularly ! ;)

I listened to some of 1/2 Speed Master of Abbey Road this am. It really does make a difference to the ears. I can hear the high end of the cymbals, guitars and string with better clarity. You still get the vinyl vibe as well.

The time to get vinyl was the dire 1980s.

In the dire 1980s everybody shifted over-night (err, not me, didn't buy a CD player until 1997) from a format that cost about £3.49 - £5.49 per unit to a format (in its infancy and with little in the way of sleeve-notes or bonus tracks, and often appallingly transferred) that cost anything from £12.99 - £18.99 per unit.

Fast forward to 2014, and now is the time to buy CDs, a format (advanced, sleeve-notes, bonus tracks aplenty) that costs anything from £1 to, at the very most, about £9.99, and yet a significant amount of people, or so we're led to believe by the Record Industry, are prepared to pay upwards of £50 for an album which, judging by all the comments of Amazon, has a 50/50 chance of being made with really poor materials despite the claims of 'virgin vinyl' etc. on the cover.

I don't get it.

The time to get vinyl was the dire 1980s.

I don't get it.

Funny, What comes around goes around  glassesslip

Now was the time for me to sell off my original Canadian Capitol records, as I got "top dollar" for them.

*** Still have these for sell: Super rare 1980 FULL Stereo retro Capitol "Beatlemania! With The Beatles" Album and the hard to find Dr Ebbets needle drop recording CD of the same album.

Did all this since I collected all the Original UK LP's, and am now currently buying the original UK Singles...

I recommend everyone buy the original UK LP's.  What people are paying for the 2012 Stereo & 2014 Mono reissue LPs, you could have a great start on the originals. Only the White LP & Sgt. Pepper are a little expensive, the rest not so much. (unless your after the first pressing (Gold) Please Please Me stereo version)  icon_king

Unfortunately, since there was no real "Past Masters", collecting the UK Singles can get a little expensive.  4ac

That's an amazing collection, BB! I have only a handful of vinyl Beatles LPs, all U.S. versions.

Ya being patriotic I had to have the Canadian versions, but since I really don't play my records much, now was the time to take advantage of the price of records.  Unfortunately like I mentioned, it also means the price of Beatles UK Parlophone/Apple singles/EPs are also high!    icon_mad

I love the early Canadian Beatles albums.  I have Long Tall Sally and Twist and Shout on vinyl transfer CDs.

Interesting ibanez.  Do you prefer this over real CD quality?  Does it have a lot of the pop & hisses like an album does?  I am somewhat interested in doing this myself, but wonder if it's worth doing.

Luckily I sold off my 2012 reissue Stereo LP set for more than I paid for it, and kept the Black Box to store my Original UK LPs & Singles/EPs in.  icon_king

Here is my Beatles "White" LP and Black Box  icon_good
