Gene and Eddie and Carl
« on: October 02, 2005, 02:13:27 AM »

I'm on a major Gene Vincent/Eddie Cochran/Carl Perkins kick.

Man, were these three great or what?  Gene's voice is one of the best in rock'n'roll (even when he's imitating Buddy Holly).  Eddie has the true rock spirit (20 Flight Rock is pure gold) and Carl is pure "dixie-fried."

I always appreciated the way the Beatles stood up for their heroes.  George came to Carl's funeral in Jackson, TN.  About an hour from here.  Like an idiot I didn't go to the funeral. Not just to eyeball George, but to pay my respects to Carl--man, what an undersung talent!

I used to be a huge 50s rock & roll fan when I was in my early teens, and the three you mentioned were my big idols, along with Chuck Berry and, of course, Elvis.

Twenty Flight Rock is definately one of my favorite old rock & roll songs.
