If They Remastered The Albums....
« on: October 31, 2005, 01:58:16 AM »

Would buy all of them again or stick with your original C.D.'s. I read on a Beatles site that in the future they may remaster the albums. Kind of what like the Rolling Stones are doing with their early albums and what Pink Floyd has done numerous times. I think this would be a ruel thing to do because if you didn't buy them you would feel like your really missing out. Personally I would keep most of my C.D.s and maybe buy a ouple of my favourite albums if they re-issue them. What do guys think?

I would download the remastered versions. :p

I already have all of their offical albums on CD. I dont have Yellow Submarine or the Past masters CD though. I want to buy the box set just to have and not listen to them. Its pretty expensive though.

That's how they get you on the elevator. When CDs first came out, everyone rushed to buy their favorite albums on disc and alot of them sounded like crap because they were just mass pressed/released. Then after you buy a collection, then they come out with an upgraded/remastered version, so you buy that. Then they reissue the remasters with bonus tracks, so you buy that. Now there are SACD and DVD audio. I think I've bought Elton's 'Yellow Brick Road' four times now on CD-all different upgraded versions. Same with Billy Joel's 'The Stranger'.

I think to some extent remastering an album IS a way to get you to re-buy them. In the end, it's simply about the music and personally I don't think remastering will change their brillance. :)

If we're happy with what we've got, no need to buy them.

All the Beatles music on CD are so well produced (respect GM) that any remastered versions would be very very similar and to be honest, unnoticeably 'better'.

I'll keep my current CD collection of all the albums.

I stick with what I got. If anyone chooses to buy me a 'new' one for Xmas or B'day then that's cool.

If the remastering has fantastic sound quality and it comes beautifully packaged in a case or box of some sort, with worthwhile additional 'goodies', then, I'd buy it. To have all the official releases in a single well-organised package would be worth the

It's a toughie I suppose. I mean I like hearing the groove of a record going around. I like the thought of The Beatles and their limitations breeding their innovations.

Whatever album you get accustomed to is normally THE definitve one it seems.

Sometimes, sonically or audio speaking, things that aren't perfectly isolated and panned, de-hissed etc. add to the vibe of the track. All cleaned up can sometimes give the songs a feeling of sterility, I feel.

In a nutshell, it must be great hearing digitally enhanced masters through a great system. I can't argue with that but I also feel there is a case for hearing The Beatles from the perspective of how THEY released their songs at the time. As nature intended. lol

You'd better gather handfuls of the vinyls the, unless you've already got 'em!

Agreed. I think you also miss something by not having the album split into sides. The White Album, for instance, makes much more sense when listened to as four parts rather than a continious stream of songs. (I'm thinking particularly of the drum closing side one on Happiness...., and Helter Skelter/Long Long Long shutting down side 3)

Not the right thread for it exactly, but I like Ringo's drumming, except for the bit in Mother Nature's Son, where the drum part just sounds like someone accidentally knocked some books onto on the floor!

I only have 2 vinyls of Beatles I believe... 62-66 and A Hard Days Night.

Then it was tape and then CD's (All straight normal albums except With The Beatles and Help... oh and Yellow Submarine)...Now I got it all on mp3!!! lol

So I missed the four sides of the White Album and agree that you do miss something. I grew out of the era from vinyl into cassette I suppose. I used to love flipping over the record when side A had finished. Now I have completly forgotten which tracks were the last of side A and the begining of Side B etc....Again, reliving the excitement of the times. lol

Not a biggy but an indicator as to how listening to The Beatles has changed over the years

The thing that p*sses me off about the 1987 CDs is that the stereo mixes of Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver ain't the real stereo mixes of the time. They are George Martin's 80's re-mixes where various elements of songs have been changed. On that point why did they even bother issuing the stereo mixes if they weren't even considered by the group to be the definite versions of the songs, the mono versions were. Isn't it the popular consensus of the people who have heard the mono Pepper that it is much better than the stereo one?
