What is it with people who stick garden gnomes all over their yards? I really don't see the appeal at all. Ech.

I don't have garden gnomes, but I love them just for the kitsch factor.

I'm scared of scary movies, being really high up, and falling to my death. And that's only a few fears.

^ Can I remind people that this is a thread about Phobia's, not just things you happen to be scared of. So, an irrational fear of grapefruit resulting in you crossing the road to avoid the fruit stall might be considered a phobia. Jumping on a chair when a mouse runs across the floor would not.

i have only one REAL phobia, and its a rather strange phobia, at least i think it can be considered a phobia. it's of.........logs, and similar things that are underwater.....i dont even think i've ever had a bad experience with them, i just CANT go near them, i close my eyes underwater in strange places, so i cant see whether or not theres anything there, i wont put my feet down in a lake or pond unless i can see the bottom, and once i refused to get out of the boat when the rest of my family went lure hunting on some underwater logs, and several more examples of the like......*shudders*

i doubt theres a name for my phobia...

Okay, mine is heights: I can get giddy standing on the top rung of a ladder and "white-knuckle flyer" doesn't begin to describe my reaction to airplanes. Feet belong on the ground, I say.

I have so many.  Nne of the worst one is birds though. I am terrified of birds.  I have trouble even going in someones home if they own one.

Here are others:

bugs of any kind, including lady bugs
spiders
reptiles
snakes
fish (even fish that is dead or has been cooked, I cannot touch it). I won't go in water that I can't see the bottom.
rodents (rats/mice/squirrels)
turtles

These are all things that if they come near me, I will literally shake with fear and if they get too close, I will cry and start to panic, to a point where I can get a panic attack.

I know that most of these fears are irrational, but that doesn't help me.  I am so terrified.  It's kind of sad, I mean if there is a spider in our home and no one is there, I will freak out and call someone over to kill it.  I will watch it and cry and wait until someone can get there.  I won't take my eyes off of it because I am afraid it will crawl away and then I won't know where it went.

And insects and frogs and other yucky animals belong to the wilderness and not the home (of me!). But do they get it? Noooo!  >:(

I won't go in water unless I'm absolutely sure there aren't any fish in it...

Really? I can swim even with jellyfish all around me. But not with red ones cause they sting.

I am obsessed with the fact that there are Lana fishes (fishes that eat Lanas- Lana being my name). It's not a phobia, but I wont go into the sea (mainly becuase of the animals in it, and cold temperature) if I had the choice.

As Geoff said, "feet belong on the ground", I think the human body belongs on the dry side of the planet, and not the sea.

I have a fear of heights. It runs in the family. I'm not as bad as my mom and aunts though. If I'm protected by a railing or fence, I'm fine. Rock climbing though, no way! I went a couple of times and just started shaking. I guess it's this one then: Aeroacrophobia- Fear of open high places. I've also developed a fear of flying. I used to LOVE it but I don't know what happened. Now I can barely take it. But I'll still do it. Giving into these phobias isn't necessary.

I looked up the name for fear of heights and I cannot believe some of the phobias I found. Makes me wonder about people. I mean, really now.  ::)

Anablephobia- Fear of looking up. (maybe they had a bad experience with birds as children?)
Anglophobia- Fear of England or English culture, etc.
Bolshephobia- Fear of Bolsheviks.
Barophobia- Fear of gravity. (go live on the moon then)
Cathisophobia- Fear of sitting. (what the hell do you do if you have this?? )
Cherophobia- Fear of gaiety. (these people must be real fun to hang with)
Didaskaleinophobia- Fear of going to school. (if only I would have known about this one in high school. would have been a better excuse than, I feel sick!)
Dutchphobia- Fear of the Dutch. (heh)
Geniophobia- Fear of chins.
Phobophobia- Fear of phobias.  ??)

And finally, I think a few of us here suffer from this one:

Allodoxaphobia- Fear of opinions.

 ;)
