What would John say about the world today?
« on: December 21, 2004, 09:35:43 PM »

I was wondering with everything going on right now like 911, War on Terror, War On Iraq...etc. What do you think John would say if he was alive today?

Yeah... You're right about that. I believe he would launch anti-terror and anti-Bush songs, to express his opinions. Unfortunatly that's what got him killed in my opinion. (Yes, I'm one of those Lennon fans that believe that his assasinaton was the work of the government).

I dont know, I think he would probaly of fitted in with the political stance, but, you neverknow.
He tried the politics, and realised although there was hope in the hearts of people, it was over-shadowed by the system (whatever that means :) ) ..thus.. a second time round? although, he fought for what he believed in.

Hmmm...interesting, although I'm not a 64 year old John Lennon would be leading parades, he'd be involved in some way.

Well, McCartney, Elton John, and the like are still making records and songs and touring, so I'm sure Lennon would have continued.  I don't think he would have really cared how well his albums did, really, as long as he could have spread them to whoever would have enjoyed them.

And I would have LOVED to hear what Lennon would have to say to all the crap that's happening in the world right now.

Good point Frightwolf, but John was always cynical of the music (or "muzak") industry.  It's possible that yeah, he'd still be producing music, but I tend to believe that he do a Billy Joel and just tune out.

I agree that his thought would be extremely interesting.   ;)

I don't think he would be as outspoken or radical as he was in the 60s and 70s, becaus eobviously he would me older and more mature today, but he would still be part of the peace movement.... just not in such a big way, IMO. Sadly, he wouldn't be as in tune with the youth of the world.

I think he would be absolutely appalled at the state of the world today. Many people I've talked to who lived through the 1960s claim that today seems much worse, and that much more is at stake today than then. I don't know whether to agree or not, I didn't live through the 1960s. But hearing a Vietnam Vet tell you that "today is much worse" sends electricity down your spine. Maybe Lennon would've agreed? Who knows.

Lennon would have said something, but his influence would be greatly diminished. Musicians don't have the pull and/or freedom that they used to, nor are they taken as seriously as they used to be (judging from what I've read from the past) in the mainstream.

Who knows what would've happened musically. "Double Fantasy" was not selling well, and didn't garnish much critical praise, until after his assasination. Some of his later solo work didn't point in great directions, but comebacks always happen.

I've got a feeling that John Lennon would be rather conservative. It's a fate that overtakes many people as they get older.

I don't mean that he would be "right-wing" or "anti-liberal". I mean that he would tend to look back on the past (the sixties and seventies) with a fond eye. For instance, it would not rock me if he said something along the lines of "George W Bush and Richard Nixon were both complete crooks and liars. But at least Nixon was an intelligent guy. And everyone knew what Nixon was. These days, a lot of people are fooled by Bush. Nixon fooled nobody."

I largely agree with the tenor of ewomack's post.

I think John would be for the war on terror because of the 9/11 terrorists attacks on the WTC in NYC even thought he would probably be against the war in Iraq except not as radical as far left liberal wackos.
