Yeah Allof The Day or whatever its called. (but check out that guitar solo-sloppy or what). and waterloo sunset always makes me a bit misty eyed, specially the backing vocals.
Thinking of dedicated Follower of fasion-who started that Twenties sound thing-him or Paul ? (ie When I'm 64, Your Mother Should Know..)

The Kinks are one of the greatest rock bands of all time with few equals & one of the pioneers in the British Invasion of the early 60's with the Beatles, the Stones & the Who.  Ray Davies is one of the greatest songwriters of all time with few equals but it's too bad he never collaborated with John on any song during the 60's which would have been amazing.

Ray Davies indeed is an amazing writer. Totally agee again Wayne. ;)
If it was'nt for The Beatles they would have conquered I reckon. But maybe if it was'nt for The Beatles they would have not the yardstick to write such great tunes.
Big Up The KINKS!!!

i also think the problem with the kinks was that their production was pretty bad.

if they had a production company  like the beatles, i'm pretty sure they would have made more hits.

Well they never had The mighty GOD George MArtin as producer but I would'nt say their production was bad. Very organic maybe surely not 'pretty bad'...?....:)

I've always thought a alrge slice of Beatlemania in America was more than just their music. Don't know if the Kinks would have the personality to create the stir The Beatles did. Other than Ray they're a quite a faceless band

Pretty good point there Kevin.... I was'nt thinking about personalities when I wrote that...Purely songs...It's just there was a thread or question not long ago about what would have happened if there was no Beatles. To me, they would have been the obvious contenders from British Pop around that time had there been no Beatles.Other than RAy though, your completely right.
I do love their style though. ;)

I love the Kinks, but I have to admit that their 60s production sound is pretty horrible compared to the crispness and clearness of the Beatles and George Martin and EMI and Geoff Emerick.  I think Shel Talmy was their producer for the stuff on Pye.  I guess they didn't have the production team EMI had.  It's a shame that stuff can't be remastered.

That's nice. They seem to have a brotherly relationship that makes the Gallaghers look like the Waltons. So good on them for doing it.
