Title: Your First DM's Beatles Forums Post
Post by: Hello Goodbye on August 08, 2012, 02:20:47 AM
Do you remember your first post?  It's easy to refresh your memory by searching your own posts in your Profile Summary.   What was your first post and why did you join the Forum?

This was my mine:  http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/index.php?topic=4165.msg97848#msg97848 (http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/index.php?topic=4165.msg97848#msg97848)

I wrote that the Frère Jacques background vocal to Paperback Writer was my favorite background vocal.  I did a Google search for an obscure Beatles fact (I can't remember what it was I was looking for today) and the answer came up in a long detailed post by raxo.  My question answered, I perused DM's Beatles Forums and liked what I saw and so I joined the Forum.

Not too long after I joined, I went away on vacation.  When I returned, I saw that a couple of members had asked "what happened to Hello Goodbye?"  That's when I knew this forum was special.

I chose Revolver over Rubber Soul. Nothing very shocking.

Al noticed then that it was the first message on a new forum.

Depends. Would you still do that today?

Custom made Dinosaurs, too late now for change.

LOL

Gawd knows what mine was. I was TheMasterOfGoingFaster back in them days but that profile was banned or deleted. I've had numerous profiles since.

I came here first in 2004 as it was the first one that came up when I typed "Beatles Forum" into Google.

Hey everybody. I'm new here and my name's Paul. I'm 19 years old and I live in Iowa. As you can probably tell by my name, I am a huge Jimmy McCulloch fan. Of course I love The Beatles or else I wouldn't have joined   I look forward to talking about The Beatles and getting to know the people here.

Thanks, it's bound to be faintly embarrasing. It would be nice to see it though. Thankyou Cor.

I had been listening to the WhiteAlbum for a long time thinking about how the bass sounded different on songs like EGSTHEFMAMM, Dear Prudence, Yer Blue's and a few others. I decided to look up a forum to discuss this and DM's was the first one up. I'm glad it did. So, White Album Bass was my first post.

I'm not sure why I felt compelled to state my age but I do know why I joined. One of the things I miss most about my brother is our shared love of music, especially The Beatles. I really didn't have anyone else in my life who was interested in discussing such things, at least not the way I wanted to so that's where you all came in. Anyway....

Hi Beatle People! I'm Kelley, from the United States. I'm 47 and I guess the most interesting fact I have to offer is that I watched the Beatles make their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. At least that's what I've been told; I was only 7 months old but my mom told me that I loved it. I haven't stopped loving them since.

Like Kelley mine was in the introducing yourself thread. Hard to believe it’s almost six years since I joined. It’s gone fast and is now the only Internet forum I comment on. I stand by my first post. It’s still reflective of the kindling of my love of the Beatles. It’s more poignant as, since I joined, two of my older brothers have passed away (although not the older brother most responsible for my Beatle background. He’s still kicking)

That's okay, Moog.  I posted that link to bump this thread up for members who have joined since 2012.

Here's mine from the "Where Were You from George's page
December 07, 2007
I was at school and a teacher who knew I was a fan said"did you hear the news on George?" I said "no what news is that?" "he died" I was shocked and stunned I'm not really a huge George fan but was really upset about it. The teacher allowed me to walk out the class and go for a walk around the school. During that day I recived lots of txts saying I'm I alright etc and in the afternoon I wached a tribute programme to him. 2001 was a bad year in June my comedy group The Giggles disbanded, Sept 11th then George.

Aww Moog, I’m so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately that’s another thing we have in common. I also lost my two siblings, a sister and a brother. I’m so glad they exposed me to their music and that it stuck. That is a powerful connection that will last until I see them again one day.

This was my first post:

The Beatles / Re: The Summer Of 1960
« on: June 17, 2006, 04:05:02 PM »
This sudden development of the Beatles seems to parallel their later sudden development at the time of Revolver and Sgt. Pepper.  I often heard people asking how they came so far in such a short period of time.  So much about the Beatles is absolutely mystifying.  They were a phenomenon which seems to defy the usual analytic purview.

Today, I just think they were very talented and they learned very quickly as a result.  So that's why it seemed like they developed so rapidly and unexpectedly.  They weren't going to continue creating songs like "She loves you" and "I want to hold your hand."

I remember when we were voting on the best and worst song of each album back when I joined in 2007. My first post ever was a response to that, for the album Please Please Me. Here's my original very first post. Nothing too interesting:

Best: I Saw Her Standing There
Worst: Baby It's You

-----

We also had a "Song Survivor Game" back then where we ranked top 3 songs on every album, then those songs would continue on to the next batch of voting, and the next and next, until a final song remained and we labeled that the best Beatles song. Anyone remember what it was? I wanna say Strawberry Fields.

It's hard to believe that twelve years have passed since your first post.  Paul (BlueMeanie) was the moderator who ran those polls that summer.  They made for quite an enjoyable summer.  Paul was one of the finest moderators we've ever had around here.  Bobber and I tried to lure him back several times years ago to no avail.

Thanks Kelley. It is sad to lose your closest family. I still have two of my original family left but our numbers are dwindling. It’s good for me that music ran so deeply in our family and there’ll always be those ties to them.

my first post

Like others, I heard about it from Howard Cosell on MNF.

This youtube clip was before they announced it on air (during a commercial break) trying to decide if they could/should tell their audience (sorry if it has been posted previously).

I was 15 at the time and have an older brother that would play a cassette of the blue album on our way (three brothers) to aunt and uncles house for Christmas Day every year (parents and grandparents in another car).

That was my first repeated listening to the Beatles which led to a lifetime of enjoyment since.
