Best Comeback Album by a Solo Beatle?
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:17:15 AM »

Which comeback album by a solo beatle do you think was the best? I'd say Double Fantasy... One of my favorite Lennon albums, all of his songs are great in this one and even Yoko's songs are kind of decent. (At least she doesn't scream that much anymore)

As I don't consider Flaming Pie to be comeback album, I picked Flowers In The Dirt, although that is debatable too. But somehow, after the dreadful eighties, Paul produced something decent. I never ever got into Cloud Nine (or any George album after 1971), Double Fantasy was a major disappointment in 1980 and although I have respect for Ringo solo output, I don't consider it 'best'.

Its a choice between Flowers in the Dirt & Cloud 9, the yoko tracks let me down
on Double Fantasy but Lennon's writing was much improved. Double Fantasy could
have been a great album. but Cloud 9 proved that George was writing strong material
again after a couple of half descent albums. i think Jeff Lynne was a good imput for him.
so Cloud 9 for me!  :)

Cloud 9 was a great album, I love it :)  Again, like what Andy said, Yoko's part of Double Fantasy kinda let it down a bit but John's part was stunning!

I'd go with either Cloud 9 or Flowers. Double Fantasy was a disappointment when it came out but only after John died, did it became a smash hit.

Yeah, I always wondered how well 'Double Fantasy' fared before John died. I know that Just Like Starting Over had reached the peak of No.8 in the UK singles charts and was already dropping down the chart when John died. That must have been a little disappointing for him...

Cloud Nine followed closely by Flaming Pie.  The connecting link?  Jeff Lynne.

I loved Flaming Pie when it first came out and was a self proclaimed Pie addict for a few weeks. :) Still love it. The album before it, Off the Ground, wasn't terrible or anything. I especially liked the title track. But Flaming Pie was just SO MUCH better...that's why I'd consider it a great comeback album. Paul's prior album was mediocre, and Flaming Pie was incredible.
