I didn't consider "Yellow Submarine" because the song had been released before, but it's ok for those who want to consider it. Same goes for "Magical Mystery Tour".

Looks like Help is winning out.

I'd probably swap No Reply for Come Together in Hombres list and that'd be pretty much my order.

I really don't like lists but if I made one for this thread, I would put A Hard Day's Night as Number 1.  It's that opening chord!

I still subscribe to the theory that my favorites Beatles anything is the last one I heard. (With a few exceptions.) I guess it's easier that way.  ;)

I can't like Revolution #9. I tried it again the other day and I was doing okay until I heard Yoko say, "If you become naked...." Not once but twice! But it's funny how subjective music is. I know Rocky probably isn't the greatest song but when I hear it I think of my brother singing it and playing his guitar. He had it right down to the twang!

I love that song!

I was reading about the genesis of George's Miss O'Dell. Basically the same as Blue Jay Way. She'd stood him up and he was sitting around waiting for her. Quite a different musical approach to that old fav.

Better in the abstract than the reality. I'll resist posting the Two Virgins cover

In terms of immediate impact at the time, 'Help!' had already been out as a 45, as had 'A Hard Day's Night', so I'd have 'Two of Us' at 3, 'Back In The U.S.S.R' at 2, but, at a resounding no. 1, 'I Saw Her Standing There'.

That countdown.....1 - 2 - 3 - 4.....confirmed, in no uncertain terms, that something was about to change and, sure enough, by the end of the year, huge political and cultural changes ('March on Washington', Profumo, Kennedy's death) had taken place both in Britain and America.

Actually the "A Hard Day's Night" single was released the same day as the album: July 10, 1964 (UK).

Fair enough, but the 45 would surely have had many airings on the radio before release.
It would be interesting to know if any tracks on 'Please Please Me', apart from the two 45s, had similar pre-LP airings.
Anyone know?
