What do you think of this list?
« on: November 18, 2004, 07:32:10 AM »

Just wondering what you think about the songs on this list, and the fact that the Beatles didn't get a listing until no.8? (Although John was no.3)

Not just about the Beatles songs, but also the other songs listed. (We are allowed to occasionally stray from the Beatles aren't we?)

We don't stray, we expand upon our horizons. lol
Don't think nothing of this list. Is it co-incidence that this has been compiled by 'Rolling Stone' magazine and we get Dylans 'like a rolling stone' as no.1 and then 'The rolling stones' 'Satisfaction.' as no.2..........I smell a rat.

Is the whole list in net somewhere?  Could not find it in Rolling Stones pages..
Looks like about the same as the Mojo-magazine´s list some time ago, but they voted  In my life - for the best song. Dont much care about whos first or anything like that, but i have found couple of inresting artist (from the bottom of the list...) through them. It would have been more inresting to see one with genre or time or maybe with female artist or  something like that, as the top 30 is always the same...

In the Netherlands they made a list of the worst songs of all time a while ago, and Ob-la-di, ob-la-da "won". What the hell?

I know Ob-la-di, ob-la-da wasn't exactly the most briliant song Paul McCartney ever wrote, but there are still at least hundreds of thousands songs out there that are worse...

Yeah, I heard about that.
Although Ob la-di, Ob la-da can be grating to some listeners, I think its a perfect pop song.
It shows the genuis of Mccartney, and was a smash hit when Marmalade covered it..thus..I cant see how it could be the worst Number One...

Bob Dylan's great... but not that great.. I'd put The Who before him anytime.

ROLLING STONE's list, "Like a ROLLING STONE" is #1 and the ROLLING STONEs are on #2... I wonder if they really chose those two because they thought they were the best songs ever made...

And I don't even like Bob Dylan. To my opinion he's one of the most overrated musicians of all time.

I think God Only Knows by the Beach Boys is hands down the best song ever made.

You can't pick just one greatest song of all time, it's impossible. There are just so many great ones out there not to mention many different genres.

Biscuit Power, I think I agree with you.  Much as I adore the Beatles, "Pet Sounds" rates higher on my list than any of the Beatles albums...it is unbelievably perfect.

This is a travisty of injustice! No "AMERICAN-PIE" the song was one of the most played songs of all time! Where "Rock Around The Clock" (there is no rock and roll without that song) Where the hells "Maggie May" the best rock ballad of all time and my F-N favorite that introduced the second best band ever OASIS- Wonderwall! This list is bogus if you put it to the test you can see right through it!

Lists like these are all bullsh*t, 100% of the time. There is no way that there can be a definate 500 greatest songs list slated by a group of morons who are just as bad as MTV and VH1. They DON'T know music and never will... Not only that, human minds are, 100% of the time, always roaming and never set or satisfied by nature, therefore the #1 of 500 songs could be Like A Rolling Stone to one guy today but Free Bird the next. It's folly from the beginning.

Opinion should never be published in my opinion. But ah well... That's the world.

I can name lots of songs that are much better than their so called list!  Where's "American Pie?" "Rock Around The Clock?"  "Maggie May?"  "8 Miles High?" "House Of The Rising Sun?" I could go on forever about signifigant songs that shaped past generations of "Baby boomers" The list must have been made up by journalists who had nothing to go on but, the actual music and not what the songs represented to a generation or, they would have had a very different looking list!
