While I was in the hopsital I learned a few new words.
In England, the word lift means Elevator.
Solicitor means Lawyer. (I think the U.S. people will get a kick outta that one)
Pants means Underwear
Underground means subway
Nappy means a babys diaper.

Bangers and mash is sausages and mashed potatos.
When I was in Northern Ireland I heard so many different words from my reletives. When they'd talk about having "tea" I always thought they were talking about the drink but they were referring to their dinner.
I had someone there ask me if I wanted some lemonade and they gave me a glass of soda.
There's more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

The tube is also the subway, a queue is a line and a lolipop man is a crossing guard! I don't know how I know that last one.

Yeah, being from Australia, we have all the same words as in England. So lift, nappy, tea and lollypop man/lady is what Im used to. If someone over here says elevator or diaper it's kinda like "err, what are you on about?" Like we do know, but we use all the English words.
But with some of my friends, they also think when I say im going to tea (dinner) they assume it's the drink and get a bit confused.

A man who sold lollipops! That's funny. I would think the same thing! I think crossing guard makes more sense. After all, they are guarding the crosswalk.

"To Let" I believe means to rent. I heard "mind the gap" while waiting in the tube. "Watch out for the gap"

I thought a shirt was a shirt! A sweater is a pullover is a jumper... I think. For example; The Beatles wore polo-neck (roll-neck) jumpers on the cover of With The Beatles! Confusing?!! LOL ;D
