Since I searched for "The Masked Marauders" on this forum and didn't find it, it's possible that some of you are not aware of this hoax.
In short, with the help of Rolling Stone magazine, a group of musicians who called themselves the "Masked Marauders" released an album in the fall of 1969. This band was rumored to be made up of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, and Bob Dylan. Rolling Stone had cleverly printed the hints and rumors leading up to the album's release. By the time it hit the record stores, there was high interest in the album, and many copies were sold.
The first track, "Can't Get No Nookie", was sung by a Mick Jagger sound-alike, with just enough conviction to give credibility for anyone to continue listening. It went downhill from there, and if anyone got to the last track believing the album was real, they added this little bit at the very end: A monologue by an outraged record buyer, majorly p*ssed about being ripped off. "When I get through with those people at Deity Records, I’ll have them walking out of the building in barrels."
And believe it or not, it IS available on CD. Gee, I feel lucky to have it on vinyl. ;D

I didn't buy the album because I figured it was a hoax...as Paul was dead. ;D
