How Peace Museum became a shadow of itself
After three decades, institution is defunct and its artifacts in storage

When Chicago's Peace Museum was founded in 1981, its organizers had a simple yet lofty goal: preserve the remnants of famous peace movements to emphasize the cost of violence. But three decades later, the museum is defunct, and its artifacts, which included photos of Martin Luther King Jr. and a John Lennon guitar, are in storage. Worried about possible damage to the collection, the Illinois attorney general took the unusual step last month of suing for control of it.
