This sounds like a great idea for Ringo. I didnt know about it, thx. The Liverpool theme will hopefully make it a bestseller for him. Usually I always back anything Ringo does, but this project sounds sounds especially intriguing.

Paul was the first former Beatle to give homage to his old hometown w/ "Liverpool Oratorio"

This is so exciting. Paul and Ringo will play on Liverpool in 2008. Don't you think Ringo's gonna play Liverpool 8? Could it be better? I don't think so! :)

I'm so happy for him.

Liverpool 8 is deadly, positively deadly! I just listened to it on Amazon and I'm a soggy mess.

Ringo is really aging like a champ. I'm so glad he's getting more personal in his songs as time goes by.

Thanks for the pre-listening link. I have a feeling I'll end up buying this one.

Ouch. So far I've only listened to the title track, but sorry to my ears it's awful. The lyric is cringe-inducingly bad and the whole thing sounds embarrasingly like the Peter Serafinowicz parody "Goldfinger" I posted in the youtube section a while ago. The only charitable thing I can say is that it has a certain amateurish charm (like your kids drawings you hang on the fridge.)
Hopefully I'll listen to the rest before I finish tonight.

I must be missing something. All respect to others opinions, but this sounds so dated. It would have sounded old twenty years ago. Dated and bad. Bad bad. The songs are awful, the vocals (even for Ringo) are bland bordering on inept and the backing sounds like some crappy eighties computer programme. I really want to love Ringo but this is embarrasing. If this was some unknown guy playing in a bar I'd either have to get very drunk or leave. Some of it actually made me laugh and I'm not sure it's supposed to. "I think I'm going under, my heart it beats like thunder.." NOooooooo
Yay. I've got the full set now. Back to the "say something nice" thread.

"Liverpool 8, also the title of the album's upbeat, vibrant lead track, "refers to the section of Liverpool where I used to live," explains Ringo"
I think Ringo's been a bit naughty here. He's all over the news today - he's headlining the concert tonight that kicks of Liverpools tenure as European City Of Culture ( ! ) for 2008. And guess what all the millions of banners, posters and flyers that are decorating the city to celebrate this year long event  say: Yes, you guessed it, Liverpool 8. And Ringo, bless him, just happens to release an album/single of the same name, almost on the same day,  which happily reminesces (sp) about the city.
Tacky Ringo, tacky.

I don't think it's tacky at all.
It's a tribute to the place he was born.
And I think Liverpool is extremely lucky to have someone to launch their year in this way.
He didn't invent the fact that he was born in Liverpool 8 in that tiny house in Madryn Street.
Would you prefer him to deny it?

My point is that he's saying the title comes from his postcode, when in fact it seems to be a shameless attempt to cash in on the cities culture capital celebrations. Either that or it's one hell of a happy coincidence that his Liverpool 8 hits the shops just as Liverpool 8 logo's appear all over the city and he headlines the Liverpool 8 concert.. He's known for ages that on almost the same day he releases Liverpool 8 he's headlining the Liverpool 8 celebrations.
It would be better (but still tacky) if he just told the truth.

Maybe I'm being unkind. I'll settle for "Ringo has spotted an oppotunity and has used it to his advantage." It's still a rubbish song and album though.
