Hi all, greetings,
I have some questions about Beatles song.
First of all, is their song in Your "Mother Should Know" one of their psychedelic songs? I know it's the psychedelic music era, but from the lyric of the song, it has a good nostalgia content.
Secondly, what is other Beatles reaction about this song ?

I don't think "Your Mother should Know" Has any psychedelic content at all.
I personally like this song. Its cute. Doesn't get much attention though. Its not a song I'd put any specific thought into listening too, like maybe In my Life, or Strawberry fields. But if its on the cd, I'll listen to it.

I agree with Ed. I think it's a good soft song to listen to but not one to put much thought into. Just get into the mood. To quote the beatles...Turn off your mind relax and float down stream.

I always liked it and never thought it had any pyschedelic nature to it. Just one of those Mac tunes I suppose.
I've never heard any opinions of the song from any of the other members, so I cant really give you an answer.

I don't think this song is pyschedelic at all. I think it's a very old fashioned sounding song. It's not one of my all time favourites but I like it.

Paul keeps going through phases of harking back to songs of the Twenties and Thirties - When I'm 64, Honey Pie etc. This is another one of them.
This influence on Paul can be traced back to the days when his father Jim had his own band - called Jim Mac's Jazz Band. Your Mother Should Know is very much the style of music which would have been played back in those days. Paul actually recorded one of his Father's own instrumental compositions under the pseudonym of The Country Hams; "Walking In The Park With Eloise".

It's also a good song to dance to. nice, smooth and sweet.

There is one particularly sung using Da Da ta ta Da Da ta ta, instead of using original lyrics.
Anybody know what's the name of this vocal technique and what's the purpose ?
Anybody here with great music knowledge ?

I'm not aware of any other versions of this track - do you have examples? Anyway, that style of singing (da da da etc) is called 'scat'. Don't type that into a search engine though - you'll more than likely turn up a whole host of crap sites... LITERALLY!!!!!! :D
'Scat' isn't really used to substitute words - it tends to add another dimension to a song - usually re-inforcing the melody line. That's what I reckon anyway!!! :)

Scat is really using the voice like a lead instrument...in jazz it was often a trumpet or sax sort of reading.
The advice not to google scat is a precious and very true one! LOL!
(Is it possible this is on the Anthology version? I haven't heard it in awhile...that marching drum beat turned me off to it)
