Beatles Photo Session Questions

I would like to know if the 2 below photos of Astronaut Paul and John were taken by the same photographer? Were they from the same photo session? Were there photos of George and Ringo from this session? Were there group photos of the Beatles from this session? They looked like they date from 1965.

I wish I could help, but I have always been curious as well! Especially about astronaut Paul, no idea where that's from!

I recieved an answer to this from someone on the Macca-Central.com forum. Thanks to  mb24jg for providing this info:

"Here you go: the astronaut photos were taken for a photo shoot for Harper's Bazaar in 1965. I don't know about the john pic, but if you visit the links you can see that Ringo was also photographed in an equally fun costume. No photoshop here!

Richard Avedon Photos: April 1965 Bazaar."

Another photo of Astronaut Paul and pics (never saw these before) of Roman Ringo that were taken by Richard Avedon

I did not know that. Richard Avedon has done very interesting pictures of the Beatles, between others the psychedelic series (that were reworked for the 1970’s anthology Love Songs’ cover)

^I thought Andy Warhol did those? No?

Or did Avedon take the pictures and then Andy manipulated them?

Indeed. Avedon has manipulated photographically – while developping – the images he had shot (with an old technique called solarization). Here’s what Andy Warhol’s (silkscreening was his media of choice):

^yeah so in the first psychedelic photograph above, Avedon took the photos and then used the solarization process on them?
And then later on Andy Warhol took the photographs and silk screened them? Is that what your getting at? I'm just curious is all.

I've done solarization before in the darkroom so I know about that aspect of it.  ;) I just think those photographs are so cool!

And the last one that you posted: I think Robert Freeman took those photos.

Correct. Avedon took his own photographs; then briefly opened up the light in the dark room (solarized them) while developing. About Warhol, I don’t think he took the pictures, but he applied different techniques to add contrast and then, silkscreened the end result.

Here are some more Beatles photographs by Richard Avedon...

....and of Marilyn Monroe...

....and of Bob Dylan...

....and Twiggy...

I think his style is unmistakable.

Thanks for answering my questions!  ;)

You know what I've always wondered about, why does Ringo's picture look so different than the others? It's so much clearer and less solarized. lol Also made me wonder why he did that.

To my knowledge and short experience, solarization often produces unexpected results (flashing the light one second or half a second can result in totally opposite results). Hence the difference between Ringo and the others.
