Always loved Badfinger.........a band with so much promise, but ended up with so much tragedy.  Very sad.  I did get to meet Joey at Beatlefest a few years ago, that was very cool! He seemed like a really nice guy.........

George Harrison produced a lot of their stuff.  Just after the Beatles broke up, Badfinger was supposed to be "the next Beatles."  How could any group replace the Beatles?

One more attempt at a replacement was in the late 70s.......The Bay City Rollers.  What were they ever thinking?

The Byrds were called the "American Beatles" when they became popular.....it's always a mistake to do that with any band!  They can't live up to the hype.  Now the Jonas Brothers are being compared to the Beatles.......when will it stop?

Absolutely love the Finger!  Some of the high school garage bands I fronted performed "Baby Blue" , "No Matter What", and "Carry On Til Tomorrow".  I saw Tommy Evans' Badfinger with Tony Kaye in 1982 in rural Mass.  It was okay but Evans seemed down and subdued.  He was dead within a year.  Shame of shames what happened to these Prince's of Wales.  How does Stan Polley face himself every day?  I recomend both the documentary  and the band's biography penned by superfan and record producer Dan Matovina.

A couple of additional points:

Pete Ham named the band "The Iveys" in TRIBUTE to his favorite  vocal harmony Band The Hollies... NOT as a pun !

Pete had them sing "Just one Look" over and over until their harmonies were as tight as the Hollies....Badfinger's superb "Day After Day" proves he got them right too !

Joey Molland was a school chum of Terry Sylvester (Ex-Hollies , Escorts, Swinging Blue Jeans, Griffin & Sylvester) ...they have done shows as a Duo in recent years.

Later Badfinger Drummer Pete Clarke was earlier in The Escorts too.

Allan Clarke (of The Hollies) later recorded a respectful cover version of Pete Ham's Badfinger USA hit "Baby Blue" on his 1980 solo album "The Only One" ( aka "Ledgendary Heroes" in the USA)

If ever a story of a band was ripe for a bio-pic, this is it.

There is a video called 'The Tragic Story Of Badfinger', but I have never seen it. I'll try to find it on the net.

I have found "Badfinger-The Tragic Story Of Badfinger". It is not exactly the video pc31 posted but close.
An hour-long DVD that documents their tragic story.

Badfinger is one of those bands I grew up with, but had no idea who they really were until maybe like 5 years ago.

I like them. I listen to like Day After Day or like Baby Blue (my favorites) and they are so good...because they are so Beatles.

I mean they certainly are not as great as The Beatles, who is? But I think there sucess was cut short. For me, they are just one of those bands that bring back some nostalgia!
