Quote
the star looks close to joining them in the popularity stakes.

That's bull. I hate him. He's one of those artist that literally make me sick when I hear his music. "I love you like a fat kid love cake"??? And he probably got a number one hit for that!

To quote such poetic genius from the song they mentioned (Candy Shop):

"I'll take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop"

"I'll break it down for you now, baby it's simple
If you be a nympho, I'll be a nympho"

"I'm a seasons vet when it come to this sh*t
After you work up a sweat you can play with the stick
I'm tryin to explain baby the best way I can
I melt in your mouth girl, not in your hands"
(oh yes... very subtle)

And this is the chorus, the point of the entire song:

"Girl what we do (what we do)
And where we do (and where we do)
The things we do (things we do)
Are just between me and you (oh yeah) "

Very original... But if it's between the two of them, why is he talking about it in his song??

Do you girls like that kinda stuff? Terrible music. It all sounds the same anyway, and I have listen to it at work all day, so I'm not just saying it on a stereotypical basis.

All rap isn't bad, though. A lot of political rappers are good, such as Nas, Talib Kweli... Some of there stuff has nice messages to them...

But this stuff that's been coming out lately. *puke*

The Beatles were much more subtle about their sexual connotations.

How could 50 Cent "break" the Beatles' record when he only managed to sent 4 songs into the Top 10, while the Beatles had 5 in the top 10? Since when does 4 exceed 5, may I ask?

This week, btw, one of his songs dropped out of the top 10...so there are only 3 left now.

Despite having had 4 songs in the top 10, 50 Cent is hardly selling any singles. The Beatles sold over 20 million singles in America in 1964 alone. It would be a surprise if 50 Cent would sell even close to 1 million physical singles with all his songs combined.

The singles market in the U.S. is almost non-existant (as record companies stopped releasing singles to increase sales of albums in the late-90s), thus Billboard had to adjust to the new situation by increasing the airplay factor in its chart to something like 80%. So today's Hot 100 is in fact an airplay chart. 50 Cent having 4 songs in last week's top 10 is thus not a feat of incredible sales but of radio domination.

Exactly! Taken from the same article listed above,,,,,

The Beatles commandeered the top five spots in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964 with Can't Buy Me Love, Twist and Shout, She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand and Please Please Me.

Seems kind of silly to even compare the two when its obvious 50 cent will never do that.

To be honest with everybody, i've never heard a song by 50 Cent in my life.

exactly right, he does/did not have the top 5, as the Beatles did. so how does 50 cent equal the Beatles' record? thats right, he did not. and if he ever does, its because of airplay like you said. we will see if he's still selling albums and has die-hard fans in 40 years as well  ;D :P

Bob Dylan can't sing either, but he never rapped.
