Revolver Live
« on: May 27, 2005, 10:48:19 AM »

I got thinking about this after reading about the Anthology Directors cut(the bit about Neil saying they never practised Revolver songs to play in concerts)
Now haven't thet said one of the reasons they stopped touring was that they couldn't replicate their albums on stage. While I can see that for Pepper, I can't see it for Revolver.
Apart from the obvious exceptions (Eleanor R, Yellow Sub (maybe) and Tomorrow NK), why couldn't/didn't  they do Taxman, She Said..., and all the other guitar based songs live?
(pardon my ignorance, but were Ffloyd playing live in '66, or Cream?)

They actually hardly rehearsed at all for their 1966 world tour - and that's quite evident if you listen to any of their early '66 performances. The Budokan was particularly bad!

Although Revolver never figured live, they did actually perform one track from their recorded output from that year - Paperback Writer. However, it didn't sound that great, and George often waved to the crowd during the close harmonies so the girl's screams would drown out their rather dodgy vocals!

I think the main reasons they stopped touring were because of the American backlash following John's 'Jesus' comments, their Phillipine adventure and the fact that no-one was actually listening to them play live!

Certainly a lot of their tracks could have been played live (Yesterday was even performed with three guitars instead of strings) but the desire was gone.
