What do you all think of him? Genius? Egomaniac? Both? Neither? Do you think he's the one hold out for a Floyd reunion? I think if he called Dave and the other guys and said let's do it, they'd do it. I don't think it would work the other way around. He makes Lennon look like a saint in that area. I think Lennon would have softened by the age of 61. Not Waters though. Extremely stubborn. That's my take on it. Maybe others think differently.

Genious
-
He hasn't produced a whole lot of stuff worth listening to after leaving the Floyd though. I think it was a collective effort the Floyd. And I think what he did to Rick was cruel.
-
yeah agree, but Dark Side Of The Moon was brilliant
-
And they all worked on that closely. Rick had a lot of input in it as well as Dave. It certainly wasn't a Roger solo effort.

Genious!!!!!!! Pure genious!!!!!!1
Wonderful lyrics, not a wonderful voice but a good voice.
-
What do you think of his looks Mrs. Nicholson? ;D Just curious!

Eh
Great rocker, wonderful rock star, but no
not very good-looking.

Roger Waters is a genius...The Wall is one of the greatest albums ever... as for solo efforts neither gilmour or waters were that succesful...
-
Genius. I love Animals and the Wall movie.
-
Yes The Wall was a good movie, kinda strange.

I saw a few parts of it, and yeah what I saw was strange. I will watch the whole movie when I'll have time, my brother in law has got it on dvd.
-
I think he's a genius & an egomaniac but so is every rock star so it's no big deal while I don't think Roger Waters will reunite with his former bandmates in Pink Floyd anytime soon even though it would be an important reunion. BTW, I agree with you that John Lennon would have been softened if he had lived but there still would have been no Beatles reunion.
-
Genius, without a doubt. I've watched 'The Wall' more than any other movie. Its not a movie that you can watch in pieces, and it certainly makes alot of sense if you know the album inside and out, Roger Water's Dad getting killed in Anzio, etc.

i agree with number 14 100% :D

Yeah, he's a genius. But I still think he gets too much credit. He wrote the Wall, but he wasn't alone. It still was collaborative to some point on that album. NOT on the Final Cut though. He was a complete ass to Rick. He belittled him, he critisized his playing, he made him feel worthless and then kicked him out of the band. David said he played mental games with all of them. If wasn't until Dave's Floyd toured that Rick and Nick regained their confidence and were able to play. They didn't even play on the first Dave Floyd album because they felt like crap. Roger may be a genius, but I think his ego is bigger than most rock stars. EVen John or Pauls.
-
great post sandra...
true he had problems with the band, but the music was there...and it was great...
but yeah he's an ass for doing what he did, but still a genius musically...
-
Yes genius but jerk. How about David? Think he's a genius? I think he came up with a lot of the music we know and love. Just doesn't get much credit.
-
for playing music he's really good, good emotion, but for writing it he cant be compared to Waters in any way...
-
i cant see how someone can kick one of their bandmates out fo the band
I think david glimour was great but roger waters has more musical talent

yeah exactly, gilmour was good, but waters just better
-
Roger knows he's not a genius--and that's what drives his crazy. He could never write songs like Syd who was a bona-fide genius.
-
roger was a genius, but like may of you have said, his ego was HUGE.
-
Paul, george, and Ringo were asses to Yoko....but we still love them, or think thier a genius, etc. watever you say
-
It happens all the time. Dennis DeYoung who founded Styx got booted. David Lee Roth and the VH brothers, Axl and the rest of GNR, the list goes on. Somehow Mick and Keith have kept it together and the Glimmer Twins are like oil and water.
-
But the thing is, the three other guys in Floyd felt so alienated by Waters. His ego completly took over. David was a stonger personality so he could handle it more, but the other guys couldn't. I think Roger is a genius, but that he needed the other guys to fully interpret his visions. That's why some bands make it and others don't. You need the perfect combination. And people keep mentioning the Wall movie. Roger didn't write it. Only the music. He wasn't the sole creator of it. I love Roger, but I think he needs to get a grip.
-
He only wrote the music to the wall film? So all that intriguing dialogue wasnt him? the movie was the music...
-
His music was the catalyst for the concept of the film. He didn't agree with eveything they did with it though. Look, I LOVE Roger, I just think he's a bit full of himself that's all.
-
Roger's obsession that he's not Syd:
1) Dark Side of the moon: the lunatic is on the grass-I'll meet you on the dark side of the moon (Roger joins Syd)
2) Wish you were here--green field/cold steel rail, etc.--using Syd-ish imagery (Roger would like to write the kind of surrealistic lines that came naturally to Syd--scattered needles, etc.--but you can tell he always had to work at it;
3) The Wall--especially movie where Bob Geldolf looks like Syd with cigarette, etc. Roger can't make the hero of the film himself, but Syd.
Just a thought or two.
In us confide . . . .
