OK, M.C.
Well Ssarah's article talks about the WORLD'S number one and two pop groups which is very probably a different kettle of fish.
Were all their records number one in the States?

Most were # 1's, yes, for a good chunk of time.

As to the claim about the 'worlds', talk to Mary Wilson, not me.  *I* know what I am talking about.  :)

Yeah, you're right.
Mary Wilson could be a little more modest.

The Supremes rule!!!! My first musical taste of the Supremes, and yes they are the second best group of the 60s, and number 2 when it comes to #1's in the 60s. Also the highest selling for a female group, they deserve all the credit in the world.

Actually the "Stone's biggest Hit" Satisfaction was knocked out of the number one spot by a little song about a "girl privatecat" sung by Tom Jones!  The Supremes couldn't buy a number one song and were a bit of a going "Joke" around Mo-Town records! You have the best song writers in the USA working there and they were turning out hits one after another for their other artists! Then the "Baby Love" song came around and "Ms Ross" wasn't impressed with all the wierd Baby baby lyrics, but they recorded it and thought it would flop! To their surprise it hit # 1 and they never looked back! The female darlings of Motown!!!!!! It just kept getting better for them song after song! Let's just say there was not a more popular "female" group at this time in music!!!!!
