Anzac Day today. I went to the commemoration today - very moving. The centenary for Anzac Day is next year (and 100yrs since WWI in September this year).... Makes you think. I shall be watching Foyle's War tonight.

It's suddenly become impossible to find Beatles movie clips on YouTube. It seems to have coincided with the all the 50th anniversary hoopla. What they don't understand is that seeing those clips often leads to purchasing the movies. At least in my case it did. I guess a point was being made.

Why the &%#% are passports delivered via USPS, with no tracking or registry? My younger daughter's has not arrived, so it either got lost or, as happens so very often in my apartment building, misdelivered to another resident. Either way, it's not here but everyone else in the family's is.

You'd think in today's climate of supertight security the government would be a little more careful with this.   >:(

Rant over. Back to work.

Sometimes it boggles the mind. I hope it gets straightened out soon Kathy. BTW, I'm working on getting access to Ancestry for our library and the guy that I've been e-mailing in the course of this thinks my name is Kathy. I'm not sure whether I really need to correct him or not! He got it right once. LOL

Thanks! It actually just arrived today, not sure why it took so much longer than the other three. The envelope was half-ripped open; nice. I'm still amazed that these aren't handled in a more secure manner. I sure hope everyone's birth certificate is returned safely. We had to include the originals with the application materials. <cringe> I don't trust the USPS.

:)  At least he got the first letter right!

So, you're getting a subscription to Ancestry for the library patrons to use? That sounds great!

Really.

Hopefully. The library system will buy the access and each library that wants to offer it will have to pay their share. If enough of them will go in on it we'll be able to do it. Right now I'm arranging for a trial. If we do this and it offers as much access as my subscription does then I will use it for free! At the moment I have the World Traveler membership for 6 months but once I'm done visiting Sweden, Ireland and England I'll drop back down. I wish I could lobby all those other libraries to do it. I want to make our library as appealing to genealogists as we can. We need a big draw!

Any ideas/suggestions what to do with a carpet that is soaked in water?

My portable heat pump had a leak and now the carpet is wet. Also the room stinks but I can't open the window and let fresh air inside as the window is sealed (for the heat pump's tube purposes)

Even if you use a wet vacuum to dry the carpet, the smell will probably remain, so you're going to have to shampoo the carpet.

Tomorrow my girlfriend and I are going packpacking again. We'll be traveling through Nicaragua and El Salvador for three weeks. And 24 hours from now, I'll be in the USA for the first time ever. Unfortionately just for a stopover at the airport in Houston...

Heres another one Bazzo..

Theyre very common in Oz Baz, to the unknowing they are air con units that can work in reverse to heat you home.

The one in the pic is illegally installed (by Oz rules) those blocks of wood could rot eventually and the whole thing collapse causing mayhem

I detest heat pumps. They are worthless in cold weather -- at least, the one we had in Virginia was. (Then again, Virginia doesn't get much cold weather.) Ours was about as effective against heat as our evaporative cooler (more commonly called a "swamp cooler") was against the desert heat in Nevada. Ugh.

Good luck getting everything cleaned up, KE!
