I restricted myself to Beatle-penned songs. Bad covers i consider just unfortunate song selection.  I should add I don't hate Blue Jay Way. I just find it way too tedious and the lyrics banal. Like all the worst elements of George rolled into one.

I agree with you about BJW, its not even a song imo, just a sort of mantra/dirge

if anyone un-famous came up with that it would never get recorded

I've seen some songwriting analysis suggesting its basically an Indian song without the instrumentation. Which seems to me to be a perfect case of the worst of both worlds.

Some commenters make the point the BJW is meant to convey the tedium of waiting for his friends. It certainly conveys boredom very well since it infects everyone who hears it. It suggests to me that not every experience needs to be turned into a song.

in that case why not just hold down a Gminor chord for 10 minutes on an organ........then change to a Eminor for 15 minutes, then back to G    ha2ha

I could say its art and meant to convey frustration and hopelessness    ;D

I love Blue Jay Way!  And I love the part of Magical Mystery Tour that has become its music video.

Anyway, there's another clue for you all in that song...

That could be the middle 8. Although it might be risking too much harmonic variety and bordering on not quite boring

Not every song, Kev.  I don't care for this one too much, just the part where Paul says "Honey Pie..."

I can sympathise. Even when they were singing rubbish they still sounded good. There was always some good aspect that came through.
