Yes, I was 17 at the time and living in New York City. Penny Lane was played more frequently than Strawberry Fields Forever over AM and FM radio.

I think it was because Penny Lane was more suited for playlists on commercial radio, Daniel. The few listener-sponsored stations we had at the time did play whole LPs without interruption. Anyway, Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever appeared on the same promo single.
