I couldn't help notice that many elements of this movie have seemed to be based loosely on the legacy of The Beatles. Anyone else think so?

Or those old heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath or Deep Purple. And some others I can't think of. They're too wierd to be the Beatles.
Come to think of it, the guy with the handlebar mustache looks a lot like Nick Mason from PF.

Spinal Tap is one of the last great movies of all time to me personally speaking but it's making fun of legendary hard rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Kiss, AC/DC & Van Halen with possibly a little bit of Beatles as in the wife kind of taking over the band loosely based on Yoko.

and the psychedelic days too.
And then there's the whole White Album/Black Album thing
The bass player quits the group because of the other member's wife...
Sounds a lot like Beatles to me.

Spinal Tap is great.
Yeah, the early days are taken from the Beatles and other Beat Groups..(notice Derek plays a Hofner)
I love Nigel...great Character.
When they are talking about album design..."The White Album, What was that? it was nothing"..timeless..
Then Stonehenge

They were making fun of all the British Invasion groups from the early 60's to the psychedelic period with Flower People in Spinal Tap. This classic rockumentary of a legendary fictional rock band was based more on Sabbath than the Beatles.
