Rolling Stones Rock N Roll Circus.
« on: December 21, 2004, 02:53:08 PM »

Anyone seen this DVD?
My friend recently bought it, and its well worth seeing!

Tajmahal, Jethro Tull, Marianne Faithfull, The Who, The Dirty Mac and of course The Rolling Stones! plus more..

Extra features include a healthy interview with Pete Townshend, another quad-camera version of Yer Blues, and more songs from the above bands.

The Packaging is great, inspired heavily by Peppers...with the obvious carnival feel.

A rare treat, which sums the mood of 68 perfectly.

I have both the video and DVD. Of course the DVD is better because of the extra footage, but I WISH they would have added more!!! Townshend's interview is very interesting. He's always interesting when he talks about that stuff though. I'm not crazy about the commentary. Marianne Faithfull's is the best. I wish she would have done the whole thing.

I love this film. It's great to see greats such as Clapton, Lennon and Mitch Mitchell together. Yer Blues sounded great... My favorite parts of it are You Can't Always Get What You Want and Sympathy for the Devil, though, because those are my favorite Stones songs, and they played them great.

I think this is such an awesome film and all the performances are great. The Who were awesome and it was cool to see A Quick One While He's Away brought to life.

I agree about Townshend, the interview is really interesting, and his points are often honest.
But I think Marianne Faithfull's performance is awful...I mean, she certainly looks the part..but, for me, thats where it ends.

Sympathy for the Devil is a great song..
But Yer Blues tops the gig... obviously :)

Tajmahal are great, especially the extra songs you get in the special features.

No no! Not her performance!! I'm not crazy! I mean her audio commentary. She's very interesting to listen to and gives some insight into what they were thinking back then. I HATE her performance!

Her performance is slightly tipping on the 'absolute dreadful'

I saw The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus on bootleg video about 14 years ago & also saw it commercial free on VH1 about 10 years ago.  The Dirty Mac with John, Keith Richards & Eric Clapton playing Yer Blues is a kick ass classic performance.  BTW, legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is with Jethro Tull in the R&R Circus.

and Mitch Mitchell played drums for Dirt Mac[/quote]

I thought the Stones gave a mediocre performance which could have been much better.
