I was wondering if anyone on this forum liked the Kinks. They happen to be one of my favorite bands and just wanted to hear yuor feelings on them.
Ray Davies was a great lyricicst and You Really Got Me Now is one of my favorite songs.
i luv the Kinks... the Bulldogs of British music.... :)Yeah Allof The Day or whatever its called. (but check out that guitar solo-sloppy or what). and waterloo sunset always makes me a bit misty eyed, specially the backing vocals.
If it was'nt for The Beatles they would have conquered I reckon. Big Up The KINKS!!!
The Kinks make me happy. Especially their song Lola.
LOVE that track!! ;D
Was "Cherry Cola" even invented back then? It was intended to "coca-cola" but the BBC refused to play records with a brand references, so they had to re-record the lyric changing "coca-cola" to "cherry cola"!!
Well then what's cherry red? As in "We decided that we would have a soda. My favorite flavor, cherry red."
I always assumed that was cherry coke!
Not had chance to buy that L.P. yet The End , i have go to into Manchester for a descent c.d shop, i`ll get it a.s.a.p
I've never heard of Cherry Red either! LOL ;D
Okay, to the person who said Ray Davies is up there with Lennon/McCartney. I wouldn't quite go that far. I mean, the Kinks have many amazing songs, but I don't think their catalogue compares with the Beatles in quality, quanitity or innovation. The only equal really is probably Bob Dylan. I'd put Davies in the same league as someone like Pete Townshend or even Paul Simon. Maybe even Mick and Keith. Except they're not underrated like Townshend or Simon are. But that's just my opinion and I'm no music expert or anything.
I suppose mine are all people who write about England and English people. I could put Damon Albarn in there.
This is awesome. Ray and Damon Albarn doing Waterloo Sunset AND then Ray surprising Albarn with Parklife. Good Lord I could cry.

A Brilliant band!!! I really want to see Ray Davies in concert now!
I also love Lola, Waterloo Sunset, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, and I especially love Set Me Free.
What are your favourite songs? :)
The Kinks are great! I had Lola stuck in my head all day yesterday :)
Really? What a coincidence! They fascinate me!
I am also being crazy about them now. I think they are the best of the 60s bands. There are many good bands of that time, but somehow I get tired of listening to them quite soon but never get tired of The Kinks.
Certainly The Beatles are beyond comparison. There`s noone compared to them!
I've been on YouTube listening to thier music quite a lot today and my favorites are Lola, Waterloo Sunset, and Set Me Free (my very favorite!)
You wont be dissapointed Dave.

RAH! :D The kinks! Totally up there in my list of favorite bands. They really jus bring out my inner hippie with village green. And Well respected man is just a brilliant track.
I`ve bought a compilation by Kinks with 18 songs. I am enjoying it now. One never seems to get tired of the Kinks!
Honestly, you can not go wrong with a Kinks album on the whole, but I thought they started to drip a little starting with 'Lola versus Powerman'.
I have all their albums from the 60's & 70's. best ones i recommened is Village Green Presevation Socity,
Face to Face, Something Else by the Kinks and Arthur (or decline of the British Empire).
in the case of the 70's i should think Muswell Hillbillis, Low Budget, Sleepwalker & Misfits.
:)
