I always thought, that Lennon wrote the "think" pieces, and Paul the "top40" ones...course then they came out with the next album, and my thinking got changed...

Actually, I think they were pretty even, but Lennon's songs have always hit me a bit more.

Because most of John's songs are so personal, they, many times, see relevant to me.  I mean, John couldn't hide himself.  Even in the early days when he was "making them up", he couldn't help but reveal himself.  Most of those songs are about jealousy(You Can't Do That), insecurity (If I Fell), anger(Run For Your Life), and escape (There's A Place).

Later on, it would be understood that he was singing about himself, but early on, even though he wasn't consciously singing about himself, he reveals himself all too clearly.

I agree with this to a degree, but Mccartney also wrote songs that reflected feelings.
I think such material will emerge subconsciously, because the emotional context in which the Beatles often wrote, would obviously have strong connections with thier own state.

The Long and Winding Road, Im Looking Through you/ We can Work it out,  Martha My Dear (?) , I Will etc.

Once this is realised, Lennon still has the obvious edge with personal touch, but Mccartney isnt always writing with Commercial forsight.
With Mccartney seemingly plugging his talent for Genre- exercises (Honey-Pie, Helter Skelter, Michelle, Ive Just Seen a face etc) Judgement cannot be helped.

Nevertheless, Mccartney still shows Personal insight.

I agree that Paul isn't as consistent as John, but you have to remember that (solo-wise) Paul has a great many more albums and songs than John. It's only natural he would dish out a few clunkers in the course of over 20 albums.

This is true.  John never got to the point where he was considered "old".  Paul has been at that point for awhile and continues to dish out pretty good music.  I thought Flaming Pie was some of the best work I had heard from his since the Beatles.  Once again, I am a huge Paul fan.  I just prefer John.

That's cool.  He's the man.

I even have a '63 Hofner Violin Bass that I play, so even though John is my fav, I still have lots of love for Macca.

No.  I'm afraid I don't.  I'll have to take a picture of it and post it, soon.  It's a reissue of the '63, but it's the genuine article.  It's so light and has a great sound for being such a small bass.

it's  a dificult  to choose.
Very impossible, they writhing  different kind of song, and they have different style.
john is most "personal" , Paul more goliardic and surrealistic.
I never choose if paul is better than john or the contrary

I ain't voting. No one should be judged upon how good they are. Paul and Lennon were gifted with different talents and you all seem so blind as to that you are judging a HUMAN BEING!!
