'Exile' would have made a great single LP.
Keep Side two exactly as it is, and get the best five or six other songs for Side one.

If I had to choose the best 9 songs of the album to make a single LP, they would be:

1. Rocks Off
2. Tumbling Dice
3. Torn And Frayed
4. Sweet Black Angel
5. Loving Cup
6. Happy
7. Let It Loose
8. All Down The Line
9. Shine A Light

I accept it doesn't tell the whole story but.....
60s Rolling Stones singles - 15; number ones - 8.
Post-60s Rolling Stones singles - about 3,000 (who's counting!); number ones.....erm......0 (zero, zip, zilch).

I'd take those 15 45s over all those afterwards any day of the week, and I suspect they're worth a lot more on ebay!

I still think the Stones put on a fun show. But that's more reflecting their past glories. They're not doing too much musically of interest anymore. And in terms of recording anything of value that's thirty years past.

Yes.  There comes a time when a band can rest on its laurels...

So did Angie in 1973.  #1 in Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States.

Let's be nice.  After all, The Rolling Stones were recovering from their drunken sailor phase...

Yep, that 'zilch number ones' comment was referring to Britain, of course, and not to be confused with the EIGHT 60s number ones.

Quite aside from the lack of their first two LPs on CD (or any BBC recordings), a CD release of those 15 As & Bs in the style of the brilliant Dusty compilation from a few years ago wouldn't go amiss.
You could even put a Brian-era photo on the cover from the days when the group looked good, i.e. 1963-1968/9.
Linda took some brilliant photos of them on their '66 US tour.

I Think Ive said this before but IMO they were completely ruined when Ron Wood joined

He was in a kind of boy band 'The Faces' of the 70's, I never liked his style, to me he adds nothing to the band

Shame about Brian, he went off the rails big time (and apparently was accidentally murdered) then came Mick Taylor who added to the band in a very big way, unfortunately I think Keef just didn't like him.

Increasingly I find myself listening to the first three LPs and it's a scandal that the first two aren't on CD.

The United States Decca version of The Rolling Stones is available on CD at Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/Englands-Newest-Makers-Rolling-Stones/dp/B00006RT4M/ref=sr_1_6?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389582092&sr=1-6&keywords=rolling+stones+decca

The only official release of The Rolling Stones No. 2 on CD is a Japanese London label version from 1987.  It's been out of production for over twenty years but shows up on eBay every now and then.

Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor were asked to appear with The Rolling Stones a year ago.  Keef insisted that they be introduced as "special guests" or something like that.  Mick introduced them as "former members."
