Paul McCartney to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Nearly 20 Years After Being Chosen

Although first nominated in 1993, the Musicares Person of the Year honoree is the only Beatle without a star on the famous boulevard.It may be hard to believe, but Sir Paul McCartney, one of two surviving members of The Beatles and arguably the game-changing foursome's most successful solo graduate, is the only Beatle who doesn’t have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Stars shining for Macca tribute

Paul McCartney may not need a little help from friends to get by these days - but he’s going to get plenty of it anyway.The lineup for the Grammy-week tribute concert to the former Beatle has just been announced, and includes everyone from jazz legends and hard-rock heroes to pop divas.Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett and Alicia Keys are among the performers who will celebrate the 69-year-old McCartney when he’s honoured as MusiCares Person of the Year in Los Angeles in February.

Paul McCartney's new album, Kisses on the Bottom, which you can listen to here, sees him turning his hand to jazz-age standards. And the result, writes Jamie Cullum, is a triumphThe Beatles always had a soft spot for the era of songwriting that came before they invented the modern rock band. It's nice of them really, considering that by the 70s the genre they helped define had made dinosaurs of the likes of Frank Sinatra (who later sang the Beatles' Something and Yesterday). Among the many things that made them unique, the ghosts of Cole Porter, Fats Waller and Harold Arlen helped give the Beatles the tools to experiment with the kind of structure and melody that gave birth to some of their greatest songs.
