5th Beatle
« on: December 08, 2007, 09:17:02 AM »

A friend of mine showed me this site the other day:

http://www.dogonaut.net/programme.asp?programme=pprog5th

Quite cool, though some choices are a little tenuous. I thought it was 'case closed' with Sir George Martin!

For me Stuart Sutcliffe is the fifth beatle because he helped John and the other beatles to think up their band name.

As far as I know Stuart Sutcliffe is officially considered to be the 5th Beatle.

There is actually a book called 'Liverpool The Fifth Beatle.' Although I don't really think much of the term 'The Fifth beatle' I can see thev relevance in the case of Liverpool.

I don't think much of the term "fifth beatle" either, but if you have to have one, "Liverpool" probably has the best claim after Sir George Martin.  :)

I dunno, I like billy preston for this one. He played live on let it be with them. I realize the temptation to go for GM on this one, but see billy as a "band member"

I don't see how Abbey Road Studios could be the "5th" Beatle because AR is a place not a person

I've heard some people say George Martin was practically the 5th Beatle.
I wouldn't much disagree, I mean, the man does know what he's doing with their music..

I went with Stu on a technical level.  I mean he actually WAS a Beatle.  Granted he quit the band and was more of an artist than a musician but he was a member of the band.  However, I would put George Martin in a very close second.  I wonder what would have been lost if anyone else had been their producer.
