"Mr. Tambourine Man" is one of the most well known songs written and recorded by Bob Dylan. But here I want to talk about the Byrds version, released as a single in April 1965. That version was highly successful, reaching #1 in both US and UK. Although the beginning of folk rock is a matter of discussion (the Animals had previously released the folk song "The House Of The Rising Sun", giving it a bluesy sound), the term was finally defined as a genre after the Byrds record. The fingerprint of the song is the jangly 12-string guitar played by Jim/Roger McGuinn, being influenced by George Harrison. The deep harmony vocals also characterized the sound of the group. A great debut for a great band.

Yes, The Byrds really did a tremendous job with that song as well as many of Dylan's other tracks.

I also love Dylan's own version of the song; it's much longer and it includes some of his best lyrics. But the novelty of the Byrds recording was the sound.

I also like the Byrds version of that song, but in my opinion the band's best days were already gone at that point.
