A cute pick-me-up tune. I love singing along with Neil Sedaka.  :)

Dig this, Kathleen!  In the studio recording of Love Will Keep Us Together, Toni Tennille paid tribute to Neil Sedaka by singing "Sedaka is back" during her vocal outro...

:)  I never would have caught that if you hadn't pointed it out, Barry. (And I heard that song a lot in the 70s.)

I read recently that they just got divorced. Sad.  :(

I never imagined that would happen.  As the adage goes, they made such beautiful music together.

But that was nice of Toni Tennille to recognize Neil Sedaka the way she did.  He was a casualty of the British invasion and it took him a while to come back.

Neil Sedaka had some more bad luck in the 1960s.  He originally recorded It Hurts To Be In Love...

It Hurts To Be In Love ( demo, previously unreleased) Neil Sedaka - Definitive Collection CD

But because he didn't record the song in the RCA studio as required by his contract, he had to re-record it and the results were not as good.  The song was given to Gene Pitney who took the song to #7 in 1964.  Neil Sedaka's arrangement, musical score and even his own background vocals were used in Gene Pitney's version...

Really interesting information on Neil Sedaka, Barry; thanks for sharing it. And you're right; it was nice of Toni Tennille to recognize him.

Hearing about Paul's latest collaboration has made me go into 1965 early doors, anything to avoid the c**p of 2015!!

I'm starting with Them's debut LP which wasn't actually released until June 1965.

That, The Pretty Things' debut (March 1965) and 'Beatles For Sale' should make up, for the time being anyway, for the non-appearance of the Stones' 2nd LP (15th January 1965).....will it ever be officially reissued?

Hmmm, might have to have a re-think about this 1965 business.

If you factor in folk, modern jazz, experimental music, soundtracks AND the greatest pop music ever made (Beatles, Stones, Dylan) you could be listening to albums exclusively from 1965 from now until 2030!!!

Check out the list of 1,000 1965 LPs(I kid you not) on the rateyourmusic.com site. It's incredible what was bubbling under The Beatles et al.

Saturday morning is always 'Sounds of the 60s' with Brian Matthew (now 86 but sounding exactly like he did 55 years ago!).

As for 1965.....

Them's first LP just might be the greatest of all the R 'n' B albums put out in the mid-60s.
The confidence and authority of Van Morrison was all there with his very first record.

The Pretty Thing's debut is far more hit and miss (it sounds like it was recorded in about 10 different studios) but, like The Rolling Stones, it has a charm and ramshackle quality that gets more acceptable and enjoyable with every listen.

The Pretty Things are my 2nd favorite band of all time, but their debut and even 'Get The Picture' are their weakest efforts in my opinion.  I hardly ever break out the debut.  They didn't start going until 'Emotions' in my opinion.

I can't listen to this song without getting tears in my eyes. My mother absolutely loved this song. She even bought the 45 of it and just about wore it out.

I knew my 'one' box set would come in useful some day!

'The Complete Stax/Volt Singles: 1959-68', specifically disc 4 which starts in September '64 and ends in May '65, and a suitable bed-fellow to the debuts by Them and The Pretty Things. Hey, we are living in 1965, after all.

I'm not sure any of the 27 songs were actually hits in the U.K. (actually the Otis songs might have been), but presumably they'd have been on juke-boxes and probably all of them would have been played in London clubs like The Scene.

Yeah, my mom had great taste in music and taught me a lot. I didn't always appreciate it like I should have, though, especially when she woke me up in the morning by singing the chorus from this:

Oh, How I Hate to get up in the Morning
