I've been thinking about a Beatles vs Wings poll for sometime , so i thought as these albums are almost ten years apart and were both commercially successful , they also have either a UK # 1 single " Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby" or a US # 1 Single "Silly Love Songs" , interestingly Silly Love Songs was a # 2 UK Hit in (1976) and Yellow Submarine was also a # 2 US Hit in (1966)
On the surface they look to have little in common , other than they both have Paul in the bands .
But one band was heading into studio seclusion and the other was rocking the world .
Both albums were band efforts , and both bands were great ?
Yes "Revolver" is a classic and Wings At The Speed Of Sound is Pop Candyfloss.
I think it makes for an interesting poll between The Beatles and Wings , i think the bands themselves were close in terms of musicianship ?

The other chart fact that links these two albums is Revolver spent 7 weeks at # 1 in the UK and Wings At The Speed Of Sound spent 7 weeks at # 1 in the US .
Also Wings At The Speed Of Sound , prevented The Beatles Rock 'n' Roll Music compilation going to # 1 on Billboard , it had to settle for # 2 .
Lets not forget just how big Wings were in 1976 ???

I think people forget or just don't know that Wings were one of the biggest bands around in 1976. Hence Swine's reaction to this poll.  They were selling out stadiums in just under 4 hours. Now that doesn't sound like a big deal now but imagine a day without the internet. People actually had to leave there house for tickets.

Very strange poll.

Why strange Jane ?
Wings were at their commercial peak with this album .

Great question; and as much as I enjoy being perverse for the sheer hell of it there's no way I can vote for a record that's got "The Note You Never Wrote" on it against one that's got "Eleanor Rigby" and "Tomorrow Never Knows." Revolver it is.

Thats me perverse , but it is an interesting juxtaposition to compare these two unlikely bedfellowes , "Classic vs Pop" ?
Paul was always going to go down this route i think , the "Mr. Entertainer" was always going to get the better of him ?
I think The Beatles vs Wings conundrum is as stark as this poll , you either love them or see them as just a vanity project for Paul ? and because it's a polarizing question , i think Wings will always be underratted even though they were bigger than that other Pop juggernaut of the time ABBA ?

i know the relevance and importance of wings. i just didnt get the meaning of this poll. theres a bit too much irrelevant polls in my humble opinion. nevertheless id go for revolver all the way. speed of sound is maybe at the top of wings commercial success, it is certainly not their best album.
