The Rainbows?
« on: November 25, 2004, 07:10:15 AM »

In the movie "The Birth Of The Beatles" when asked how they came up with the name Beatles Paul and John mention all of their previous names like The Quarrymen, Johnny and the Moondogs, the Nerk Twins and Paul also mentions that at one time they where called The Rainbows.  So my question is when in the hell where they known as The Rainbows or was this a joke?

I've never heard that before, but they were indeed called the Rainbows at one time. PC, Al, or somebody else could give you more history on this.

For what I know, for one of their concerts, when there was only JOHN, Paul and some other guy, Julia Stanley, JOHN's mum, made some special shirts for the boys to wear. And they were very colourful, so JOHN and Paul decided to call themselves The Rainbows only for the occasion, and juts because they were wearing colourful shirts.

1959 - The Quarrymen change the name to 'The Rainbows' and 'Johnny and the Moondogs'
The name was changed back, and someone described John, Paul and George as 'Three soloists and no rhythm'.
