Happy Father's Day
« on: June 19, 2005, 08:27:02 AM »

Happy Father's Day to all the Fathers in cyberland.  I was thinking maybe people would not only want to share wishes, but also thoughts about Fatherhood and maybe memories of either their Dads' ..or a special someone who was 'like' a Dad in their life.

Dad's are special people. Thank God for them.

I won't get to spend Father's Day with my dad today, because he has to go to the hospital, but I went over to his house yesterday and we watched In America, which is the best movie i have seen in a long, long, time if not ever.
I also got him a book of Leonard Cohen poems, but I forgot to give it to him.. I guess I can give it to him when when he gets back.
I love my dad. :)

Just wanted to say a quick "Happy Father's Day" to all those on this forum who are fathers, or have fathers, and an early "Happy Father's Day" to all those who celebrate it later in the calendar year. Hope you all have a great day!

thanks for extending that wish for happy father's day.  It typically is a day where fathers get pampered a little more than normal (que joke about every day being father's day) and Dad gets to grill something for everyone to eat.

Mine had a little more ummmph behind it this year.  My wife, the reason I am a father to our children, has been fighting some health issues recently and we've currently at a place where we could pause and celebrate a bit yesterday.  We ate way too much, drank a bit too much and had our children all around.

Hope everyone had a nice father's day, including, as you said, all the fathers on this forum as well as anyone that has a father.

That sounds lovely.  :)

We have a different date for Fathers Day in Australia (some date in September). But I’ll accept these in advance.   ;D

I'll have to remember to re-issue my original well wishes.  :)

I've always maintained that every day is Father's Day...and Mother's Day.

I have to beg to differ with you, Barry. For years, my kids got the best of everything—for example, clothes, while I made do with WalMart and thrift store items. They got the musical instruments (pricey!), specialized sports shoes (e.g., cleats for soccer, basketball sneakers), and school trips to NYC and Los Angeles, for example, while I've made do with cheap stuff. But, of course, it was all worth it.

This isn't meant to be a self-pitying post; all the parents I know give the best stuff to their kids. I wouldn't have had it any other way.  icon_love

Then you don't differ with my sentiments at all, Kathy.  My parents also did for their children before they did for themselves.  I wouldn't have achieved my life's ambition if it wasn't for them.  That's why throughout my life I considered every day Mother's and Father's Day.

Kathy, my parents looked forward to reading the greeting cards I gave them on their special days.  There were times I gave them more than one card.  They would say "Did you have these cards specially printed?"

And there were times I wished them a Happy Mother's and Father's Day when I saw them during the year..  Their reaction was always the same; a kiss and a hug.  They knew how I felt.  :)

That's sweet!

To clarify what I meant, I guess it just seemed that while my kids were growing up, every day was "Kids' Day." Not that there's anything wrong with that. I wouldn't have done anything differently. (Well, not in regard to spending money on clothes, school fees, lessons, trips, etc.).
