When I think about George's legacy, I remember his generosity. He cared about the world he lived in--not just the bits or people close to him, but strangers and things he could easily have ignored. To me, that is the sign of a great human being.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said at the time of George's death, "I think people will be very sad at his death. I think it is worth of pointing out that he was not only a great musician and artist, but he did an immense amount for charity as well and so he will be very, very sadly missed by people right round the world."
An excellent example I think of for this is this YouTube tribute, "In Memory of George Harrison," created by Banglalink for the people of Bangladesh. The show of love and enduring gratitude from these people gets me every time.
I consider the book
Harrison by the editors of Rolling Stone magazine as one of the best memorials out there. The tributes at the end are so very moving, particularly those by Paul Simon and Tom Petty. Eric Idle's book "The Greedy Bastard Diary" also contains many poignant memories of George, some fun, some frightening, some tear-inducing.
Peace, George. You're not forgotten.
