The Beatles Down Under
« on: June 12, 2014, 06:47:31 AM »

12th June 1964, The Beatles arrived in Adelaide, Australia and were greeted by an estimated 250,000 fans, (the biggest welcome the band would ever receive), who lined the ten mile route from the airport to the city centre. Temporary member Jimmy Nicol was standing in for Ringo on drums who was recovering from having his tonsils removed.

Error. Ringo's tonsils were not removed until I believe December 1964.

Hi spirit
I just started a thread recently with this name in the tv shows board, because there was a tv programme on here in Oz the other night, we were talking about it.

BTW its was 300,000 fans (half the then population of Adelaide, it was 9 miles from the airport to the cbd and I think Ringo just had severe Tonsillitis

I hope Jimmy Nichol is doing okay these days. Last I ever heard of him he was quite depressed, said he wished he'd never taken the gig.
