American bands of the sixties
Kevin:
Seems to me that all the big American bands of the sixties were west coast based - the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Love, Beach Boys.
The only east coast band I can think of were the Velvet Underground. Were there any others?.
Joost:
If Detroit is east coast and you count singing groups as bands: all the Motown groups.
:
I like some of the Midwest bands like the Buckinghams out of Chicago.
Sondra:
Where's Bob Dylan from? The midwest? Can never rememeber the state. Anyway, it seems like the west coast had just the right kind of mentality to start the whole American psychedelic movement. While the youth in the east coast was getting ready to bring back more traditional, loud, mindless, rock and roll. Soon to known as punk of course. The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, Iggy and the STooges (where are they from?) and then there were those folkies like Simon and Garfunkle, James Taylor and Carly Simon. Then I think the rest were Canadian. ;D
adamzero:
Dylan's from Hibbing Minnesota-- to Duluth--to Minneapolis--to Greenwich Village
The Band guys were from Ontario, except for Levon from Arkansas.
Otis Redding was from Georgia, to Memphis
Jimi Hendrix from Seattle to London
Neil Young from the Canadian midwest to LA
